On April 11, 1953, he was married to Caroline R. Hesse.

Gil worked as a carpenter all his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and spending time with his family. Gil was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and the Reedsburg Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1916.

Survivors include his wife, Carol; his mother, Clara Held, of Reedsburg; five children, Jeff (Connie) Held of Watertown and Mike (Rhonda) Held, Allan (Gail) Held, Sandra (Garland) Strutz and Robert (Jan) Held, all of Reedsburg; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; two sisters, Eleanor (Fred) Montgomery of Reedsburg and Annette Greer of Virginia; two sisters-in-law, Shirley McKinney of Arizona and Delphine Peterson of Reedsburg; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Pastor Kurt Klingbeil officiating. Interment with military rites will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hoof Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family would be appreciated.

Carol served as Clerk-Treasurer for the City of Reedsburg for over twenty years. She was also proud to have been elected the first female Mayor for the City of Reedsburg. She had served for one term. She was a member of the Wisconsin Mutual Clerks Association, Wisconsin River Rail Transit Commission, ADRC and the Reedsburg Historical Society. After her retirement, she worked at the New Lisbon City Hall for one year. After retiring for the second time, she decided she still wanted to serve the public. Carol was then elected to the Sauk County Board of Supervisors. Our Mom loved going to work every day because she truly loved what she did. Survivors include her five children: Jeff (Connie), of Watertown; Mike (Rhonda), Allan (Gail), Sandra (Garland) Strutz and Robert (Jan), all of Reedsburg; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren (with one more due in January); five step-grandchildren; her sister: Shirley McKinney, of Scottsdale, AZ; three sisters-in-law: Delphine Peterson, of Reedsburg; Annette Greer, of Virginia and Ellie (Fred) Montgomery, of Reedsburg; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert on February 20, 2011. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Reedsburg with Pastor Paul Crolius officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the Hoof Funeral Home in Reedsburg and after 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials to St. Peter's Lutheran Church would be appreciated. The Hoof Funeral Home is serving the family.

This marriage was blessed with four children. Ray and LaVon farmed for many years. LaVon was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, always finding ways to care for her family. She was an excellent cook and baker and is known for her chocolate brownies, which were present at every birthday celebration. LaVon enjoyed cooking, taking walks, and dancing with her husband of 54 years, Ray. Above all, she cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be remembered as a loving caregiver who always found the best in everyone. She will be deeply missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and daughter, Sandra Marselle.

She is survived by her husband, Ray of Reedsburg;

She was a very caring person who always put everyone else’s needs before her own. She will be dearly missed. She was born on September 17, 1921, in Bear Creek Township, Sauk County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Archie and Gladys (Stout) Prouty. On June 5, 1940, Florence was united in marriage to Keith L. Breneman. This marriage was blessed with eight children. Keith preceded her in death on October 28, 2002. Florence was employed at Hankscraft in Reedsburg for 21 years where she was their representative of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union. She served as Secretary and Steward in that organization. Florence was also a member of the Hillpoint Rod and Gun Club, serving as Secretary and Treasurer for over 30 years, and was the Treasurer of the Sauk County Sportsmans Alliance for over 20 years. Florence enjoyed crocheting afghans and loved flowers, especially African Violets. She was an active member of the Sandusky United Methodist Church for many years.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Virginia (Chester “Bud”) Powell, and Dorothy Prouty.

She is survived by her daughters, Shirley Dick of Hualapai, AZ,

Vera and Virgil Gehri of Wonewoc;

Sons, Bill and Sue Breneman of Gilman,

Bob and Barb Breneman of Hillpoint,

John and Gwen Breneman of Reedsburg,

Tom and Cindy Breneman of Hillpoint,

Funeral services for Florence M. Breneman will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at the Sandusky United Methodist Church with Pastor Bob Maeglin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Farber Funeral Home, Reedsburg, and again on Wednesday, at the church, from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Memorials of remembrance may be made to the Sandusky United Methodist Church or the Sandusky Cemetery in lieu of flowers.

On November 8, 1944 she married Chester W. "Bud" Powell. They moved to Reedsburg in 1961 and remained there. She was a member of the Reedsburg United Methodist Church. She also volunteered at the Reedsburg Hospital Gift Shop. Virginia worked as a nurse's assistant starting in 1961 at the Sauk County Health Care Center, the Baraboo Manor and Snyder Nursing Home. She retired on July 31, 1987. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chester; son, Kenny; sister, Dorothy; and brother-in-law, Keith. She is survived by her daughter, Debra Powell of Reedsburg Sister, Florence Breneman of Reedsburg brother and sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services for Virginia Powell will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, July 22, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Reedsburg with Pastor David Farina officiating. Burial will be made in the Sandusky Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the church. The Farber Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

The Mass Of Christian Burial will be conducted on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Germantown with Fr. Andre Panek and Fr. Emmanual Famiyeh concelebrating. Burial will following in St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4-8 P.M. at the Cazenovia Chapel with a rosary prayed at 8 P.M. and again on Wednesday from 9:30 – 10:30 A.M. at the Cazenovia Chapel. Memorial masses of remembrance may be made to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. The Farber Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
