Myrtle Ruth (Buckles) Vander Pol was born March 12, 1915 on the border of an Indian Reservation in Millette County, SD to John and Nellie (Kooiman) Buckles. She often shared wonderful stories of their friendships and exchanges of food and culture. As a small girl, she was given many lovely beadworks and moccasins. She went on to attend country schools.

On June 1, 1933 she united in marriage to Henry Doc Vander Pol in Harrison, SD. From this happy 64 year union came four children: Dolores, Douglas, Dwight and Mark. Because of the depression and no employment, they struck off to California in Docs yellow Roadster.

Upon their return to South Dakota and family, they were lifelong members of the Christian Reformed Church in Corsica, SD where she was Librarian for many years, served as President of the Cemetery Association and was a member of the Dorcas Society. After the passing of her husband in 1997, she relocated to St. Cloud, FL to be near her children. She happily returned to her home in Corsica to family and friends each year when able.

Those grateful for having shared in Ruths life: her four children: Dolores Vander Pol of St. Cloud, FL, Douglas Vander Pol and wife, Marlene of St. Cloud, FL, Dwight Vander Pol and wife, Bonnie of Black Hawk, SD and Mark Vander Pol and wife, Darlene of St. Cloud, FL; six grandsons; three granddaughters; many great and great great grandchildren; two sisters: Lillian Van Genderen of Corsica, SD and Ione Druyvestein of Custer, SD; along with several nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by: her husband, Henry; her parents, John and Nellie Buckles; two brothers: Allen and John Warren Buckles; two sisters: Mary Swanson and Wilma Van Vuren, and numerous relatives.
