She was also past president of the Altar and Rosary Society and a former member of the funeral dinner committee at her church. She attended morning mass daily and enjoyed playing bridge and bingo. Ella was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald MacDonald in WWII; daughter, Shirley Gordon; grandson, Tom Gordon; and eight brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Sue Reed and her husband Jim of Overland Park, KS; eleven grandchildren, David, Stephen, Gerry and John Gordon of Des Moines, Paul (Ladecia) Friel of Libertyville, IL, Mark Friel of Overland Park, KS, Lisa Friel of San Antonio, TX, Linda Nelson, Grace Gordon, Mary (Dennis) Courtney and Stephanie Gordon of Des Moines; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 27 at Grandview Park Funeral Home, where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Family will greet friends on Monday, June 25, from 5 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service to begin at 7 p.m., at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. A burial will be held at a later date at Glendale Cemetery.

He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, the St. Anthony’s Knights of Columbus and supported the Italian American Cultural Center. He proudly served in the Iowa National Guard for many years. He enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting and above all else he was passionate about gardening. He is survived by his wife Mary Ann Anania Miller and was the father of 5 sons, Richard (Muriel) Miller of LeMars, Dennis Miller, David Miller, Charlie (Juli) Miller and Jerry (Stacie) Miller all of Des Moines. He is also survived by his brothers Jerry and Joseph Miller and his 10 grandchildren, Sonya, Brant, Justin, Richard “Rick”, Jona, Kaitlyn, Abby, Tanner, Brianna and Andrew. He was preceded in death by his parents Jerry and Marie Miller and four siblings Betty, Dale, Alan and Ray Miller. The Miller family would like to send a special thank you to Mercy Hospice and especially to Nurse Niki for her loving care.

    MaryAnn is survived by her sons, Richard, Jr. (Muriel), Dennis (Celeste), David (Cindy), Charlie (Juli), and Jerry (Stacie); grandchildren, Sonya, Brant, Justin, Rick, Jona, Kaitlyn, Abby, Tanner, Brianna, and Andrew; great grandson, Ryan; and brother, Joseph Anania.
