She was born on May 11, 1917 on Loretta Ridge the daughter of Leo and Gladys Nachreiner. Violet was the oldest of eleven children and was at home or nearby when six of her brothers and sisters were born. She was required to help raise her siblings and learned at an early age a strong work ethic which she exemplified this to her family throughout her whole life. As a young person Violet worked for families in their homes for room and board. Violet and Gerald ‘Bill’ Nelson were married on November 23, 1942 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Richland Center. They enjoyed nearly 71 years of marriage. Violet managed and operated the Ithaca Telephone Exchange for 10 years, while Bill served in the Army and after his return from the war. In 1952 the couple purchased a farm in Gotham and upon the couple selling the cows, Violet went to work at Pokorney’s Market in Richland Center. Upon Pokorney’s closing she went to work at Empire Drug for over 20 years. Violet enjoyed quilting, crocheting, cooking, canning and gardening.

Violet’s family learned by her example to take on a job, always finish the job and to do it to the best of their ability. One of her favorite sayings was, ‘Hard work never hurt anyone.’ Violet had gone through the great depression and it had certainly had an impact on her. Another thing that was evident about her life was how thrifty she was. She and her husband Bill were a perfect match when it came time to set goals and achieving those goals. Violet was an extremely devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a wonderful example to her family on her devotion to her husband Bill.

Violet is survived by her three children: Donald (Nancy) Stoddard of Monona, Lynette Bloom of Nickerson, MN, Paul (Sharon) Nelson of Cottage Grove; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; 3 brothers: Donavan (Sally) Nachreiner of Spring Green, Duane (Lois) Nachreiner of Plain, Richard (Mary) Nachreiner of Green Bay; sister: Marcelline Weigly of Cocoa Beach, Fl; brother-in-law: Gerald Kramer of Plain; 3 sisters-in-law: Amelda Nachreiner of Plain, Bonnie Nachreiner of Adams Friendship, Carol Nachreiner of Sun Prairie; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Bernard P. Harrington

M, b. 1 July 1915, d. 23 February 2005
Life EventDateDescription
Birth1 July 1915Bernard P. Harrington was born on 1 July 1915.
Marriage16 November 1940He married Betty Ann Anderson, daughter of Samuel L. Anderson and Ann Elizabeth Burns, on 16 November 1940.
Death23 February 2005Bernard P. Harrington died on 23 February 2005 at age 89 Bernard P. Harrington, a true gentleman and proud Butte Irishman, died Wednesday night surrounded by his loving children.
Bernie was born July 1, 1915, to Irish immigrants, Daniel and Johanna Harrington, both from County Cork. His father died when Bernie was very young and he was raised by his mother, brother Joe and sister Loretta. They taught him about hard work and the true values of family life.

He graduated from St. Mary's School and Boys Central High School, and attended the Butte Business College. He began working at an early age — first selling newspapers, then starting his career with the Anaconda Co. as an elevator operator and finishing up 47 years later as the land coordinator.

He was one of the lucky ones — to meet his true love and soul mate in Betty Ann Anderson. They married Nov. 16, 1940, and together they were blessed with their first five children. Bernie also took over as a special "dad" to his second five children, the Maloney family in 1980.

He didn't have much as a youngster and wanted more for his family consequently, to give them a good home and education. He moonlighted many years as a bookkeeper for several Butte businesses, and in 1947, purchased City Taxi. He operated that business for 53 years, but failing health caused him to sell in 2000 at the age of 87.

Bernie was a kind and caring man, who gave quietly but generously. We will never know the many acts of kindness he gave and it was never a "hand out" but a "hand up" to someone less fortunate. He spent many years as a member of the Knights of Columbus and was proud to be a Fourth Degree knight. He was also a member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, Ancient Order of Hibernians and Butte Elks Club. Butte Central sports gave him many hours of pleasure and pain, and he was one of Notre Dame's strongest fans. We knew better than to disturb him during a televised game. His last visit to South Bend was in 2001, and he made it a memorable trip for his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann "Liz"; parents, Daniel and Johanna Harrington; brother, Joseph Harrington; sister, Loretta Harrington Doran; mother-in-law, Ann Anderson; sisters-in-law and brother-in law, Jean Anderson, Lenore Anderson, and Mary Doris and "Babe" Maloney.

Surviving are his loving family; daughter, JoAnn (Bud) Nobili and their children Michael (Rendy), Mark and Brock Nobili and his fiancée, Shannon Dacus, all of California; son, Gary (Meg) and their children TJ (Kelli), Chad of Butte, Dana Shepherd and her husband Dana of Arizona; son, Brian (Margaret) of Butte and Brian's daughter Heather of Idaho; son, Bernie (Lynn) and their children Jase and Kali; son, Shaun and his fiancée Kim Yorgason of Billings; and the Maloneys, Kathy, Sherrie, Lori, "Bubba" (Mary Kay), and Steve (Celine) and their sons Sam and Jackson, all of Butte; and great-grandchildren, Nicolas and Natalie Nobili of California, and Braden and Austin Harrington of Butte; and numerous cousins in Butte and California.

Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Holy Spirit Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon. Entombment follows in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Burialafter 23 February 2005He was buried after 23 February 2005 at Holy Cross Cemetery, Butte, Silver Bow, Montana.

He was, and is, an outstanding father, husband, brother, and son whose love for his family was his true calling. Bill was an avid Wisconsin Badgers, Packers, and Brewers fan and loved all aspects of being a Wisconsinite. Bill will forever live in our hearts and memories as a true gentleman.
His family sends thanks to all of the support and love from Bill’s friends and relatives for their prayers and kind wishes. Special thanks to Heartland hospice care, the fantastic doctors and staff at St. Mary’s Hospital, and the entire team in the oncology unit of St. Mary’s.
A funeral mass will be held at St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church in Janesville at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2015. Monsignor Donn Heiar will preside. The family will meet friends at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. Henke-Clarson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
