He was a member of the Provincial Conference of June 18, 1776 and of the Convention of the 15th of July following. For many years prior to his death in September 1802, Capt Spyker served as a justice of the peace for his neighborhood. His son Henry, who was commissioned paymaster of the Berks County militia August 26, 1777, was also a justice of the peace. In 1799 he removed to East Buffalo Township, Union County, where he died about 1813.
