Name VariationChester William Davis was also known as C. W.
  • Chester William Davis was born on 19 February 1840 at Stanstead, Quebec, Canada.
  • He was the son of William H. Davis and Betsy P. Brown.
  • Chester William Davis married (?) Cass, daughter of John Colby Cass and Lestina B. Davis, before 1868 at first marriage for him.
  • Chester William Davis married Mary Ellen Zintz, daughter of Conrad Zintz and Magdalena Adams, on 22 February 1874 at his second marriage, Ithaca, Richland, Wisconsin.
  • Chester William Davis witnessed the marriage of Henry Hartwell Spyker and Sarah M. Zintz on 30 January 1884 at at the residence of Chester William Davis, Ithaca, Richland, Wisconsin; Seldom has the quiet stream of social events of our peaceful neighborhood been disturbed by so huge a wave as swept over us on the evening of January 30th, on the marriage of Mr. Henry Spyker and Miss Sarah Zintz, not more on account of the high social position of the contracting parties, than on account of the social and individual worth of each. Having been reared in each other's society from infancy, they form that rare thing under the sun, a happy union, with which no one can find fault and if kind wishes of friends would do it they would be surrounded by Heaven's choicest blessings.
The ceremony was performed at the residence of Mr. C. W. Davis, at eight o'clock by Rev S. Spyker in a most solumn and impressive manner. The bride was arrayed in a brown silk made in a simple and becoming style. The groom, groomsman and bridesmaid were all elegantly and tastefully dressed. Miss Mattie Spyker served as bridesmaid and Mr. Clarence Inman, of Sauk County, as best man. Scarcely were the solumn ceremonies making them man and wife ended before the guests were agreeably surprised by a serenade from the Ithaca coronet band, and considering the time they have had for practice they did well. The boys were invited in and after the happy couple had received the congratulations of friends. All were invited to partake of one of the suppers which is a joy to behold, much more to eat. The tables fairly groaned under their load of fruits, confectionery and all manner of eatables. To say the host and hostess had done their best is to say it was grand, for "Chet" and his wife do nothing by halves. The festivities were kept up until a late hour, and continued the next morning by a reception at the groom's parents, Rev. and Mrs Spyker, where the guests were served to one of Mrs Spyker's best dinners, and anyone who has ever "broken bread" with them know it ws second to none. About sixty guests were present at both places. Taken all in all it was one of the most enjoyed and enjoyable events of a lifetime.

Valentine Stoddard, a native of Connecticut, came from New York State in 1854 and bought land on section 31, where he settled the following year, and still lives. Valentine Stoddard, one of the pioneers of Willow, is a native of Connecticut, born in Litchfield, July 25, 1810. When he was five year old, his parents emigrated to Ontario Co., NY. They made the journey in the winter season and took their household goods upon a sled drawn by two pairs of oxen, and were thirty-one days upon the road, a distance of 300 miles. His father purchased a farm in the town of Richmond, and here the subject of this sketch grew to manhood. He was married in March, 1833, to Joanna Davison, a native of Ontario county, and purchased a farm in the town of Canadice, where they lived until 1855. In that year they came to Richland county and settled on section 31. He first built a log cabin and then began clearing his present farm, which is situated in Little Willow valley. He has cleared and fenced seventy-five acres, erected a large frame house and other buildings. His wife died in February, 1859, leaving eight children, six of whom are now living --- Jane, now the wife of George McCrossin; George, now living in Kansas; John, Harlow and Jesse live in Richland county; Jennette, the wife of Seth Frost, lives in Michigan. Mr. Stoddard was married the second time in 1860, to Rebecca Sippy, daughter of Joseph and Martha (Cogswell) Sippy. She was married in 1850 to Robert McCloud, who died in 1852, while on his way to California. He left one child --- Laura, now the wife of Monroe Slater. There is one child by the last union --- Frank. Valentine Stoddard, another of the pioneers of Willow, was a native of Connecticut, born in Litchfield, July 25, 1810. When he was five years old his parents emigrated to Ontario county, N.Y., where his father purchased a farm in Richmond, and there Valentine grew to manhood. In 1855 he came to Richland county and settled on section 31, in Little Willow valley. He first built a log cabin and then began clearing his farm. Valentine Stoddard migrated at Richland, Wisconsin, from New York.
