  • Chester William Davis witnessed the marriage of Henry Hartwell Spyker and Sarah M. Zintz on 30 January 1884 at at the residence of Chester William Davis, Ithaca, Richland, Wisconsin; Seldom has the quiet stream of social events of our peaceful neighborhood been disturbed by so huge a wave as swept over us on the evening of January 30th, on the marriage of Mr. Henry Spyker and Miss Sarah Zintz, not more on account of the high social position of the contracting parties, than on account of the social and individual worth of each. Having been reared in each other's society from infancy, they form that rare thing under the sun, a happy union, with which no one can find fault and if kind wishes of friends would do it they would be surrounded by Heaven's choicest blessings.
The ceremony was performed at the residence of Mr. C. W. Davis, at eight o'clock by Rev S. Spyker in a most solumn and impressive manner. The bride was arrayed in a brown silk made in a simple and becoming style. The groom, groomsman and bridesmaid were all elegantly and tastefully dressed. Miss Mattie Spyker served as bridesmaid and Mr. Clarence Inman, of Sauk County, as best man. Scarcely were the solumn ceremonies making them man and wife ended before the guests were agreeably surprised by a serenade from the Ithaca coronet band, and considering the time they have had for practice they did well. The boys were invited in and after the happy couple had received the congratulations of friends. All were invited to partake of one of the suppers which is a joy to behold, much more to eat. The tables fairly groaned under their load of fruits, confectionery and all manner of eatables. To say the host and hostess had done their best is to say it was grand, for "Chet" and his wife do nothing by halves. The festivities were kept up until a late hour, and continued the next morning by a reception at the groom's parents, Rev. and Mrs Spyker, where the guests were served to one of Mrs Spyker's best dinners, and anyone who has ever "broken bread" with them know it ws second to none. About sixty guests were present at both places. Taken all in all it was one of the most enjoyed and enjoyable events of a lifetime.

The following is a list of the presents:
family bible, linen table cloth - Rev and Mrs Spyker
cook stove, extension table, one dozen silver teaspoons, five dollar gold piece - Mr and Mrs C.W. Davis
