Marvin then worked at Kraft Foods until they closed in 1965 and then worked at various milk plants until 1968.
He worked at Dico in Slinger as a purchasing agent and human resources manager until retiring in December 1992.
Marvin had been a member of Peace Lutheran Church since moving to Hartford and served as president of the congregation for several years as well as serving as an usher and president of the financial advisory committee.
In his retirement, Marvin enjoyed working for his church and volunteering at the Wisconsin Auto Museum in Hartford.
Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Arlene; two children, Duane (Kathy) of Beaver Dam and Daryl (Lori) of Neenah; five grandchildren, Kevin (Lisa) of Greenleaf, Amanda and Kyle of Beaver Dam and Lucas and Andrew of Neenah; a sister, Lenora Thompson of Fort Atkinson; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Albert and Bertha (Hasz) Ohland; a brother, Wilbert; his parents-in-law; a step-father-in-law; and two brothers-in-law.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 24, at Peace Lutheran Church, Hartford, followed by burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Visitation at the Shimon Funeral Home, Hartford, will be Wednesday from 5 to 7:30 p.m. and also on Thursday at the church only from 1 until 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Church.

John A. Pomerenke was born on June 24, 1916, to Wilhelm and Ottolie (Krause) Pomerenke in Eastern Township, Otter Tail County, on the family farm. He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie and confirmed at the former Svea Lutheran Church in Alexandria, currently known as Calvary Lutheran Church. Following the early death of his mother in 1922, the Jack Beheng family raised John from the age of ten until manhood. He attended country school District #36 in Douglas County. He was united in marriage to Earleen Abraham on December 21, 1941, at Brulick Creek Lutheran Church in Elk Point, South Dakota. Following their marriage, John served in the U.S. Army as a combat engineer from January 2, 1942 until October 23, 1945, in the countries of Algiers, Tunisia, Libya, Northern Africa, Sicily, South France, Italy and Austria. Following his honorable discharge as a Corporal, he received a good conduct metal and European African Metal with five Battle stars.

John returned to the Miltona area and farmed until 1968, when he suffered injury to both shoulders, causing an early retirement from farming in 1969. He owned and operated Big Bad John’s Restaurant in Rose City from 1970 until 1998. Working for Cenex Seed Company for 47 years, he was their Minnesota State Sales Manager for 18 years. He was actively involved in initiating and serving on boards for many different cooperatives, local government and a variety of community activities in the towns of Miltona, Garfield, Alexandria, Wadena and Rose City. His involvement included serving as a former school board member of Rose City, Rose City Farmer’s Union Board, Rose City Jaycees, Rose City Sportsman’s Club, Spruce Hill Foundation & Threshing Board, Spruce Hill Town Board, Nine County Region Board, representing Douglas County Sheriff‘s Posse, Garfield Elevator Board, Farmer’s Union County Board, Production Credit Association Advisory Board in Alexandria, Alexandria Federal Credit Union Board, Alexandria Farmer’s Union Co-op Oil Co., Wadena Northern Company Board, Wadena Northern Co-op Service, and helped organize the Student Agriculture Education Board in Wadena.

John was a member of Esther Lutheran Church, where he had served on its council. He was a member of the Miltona V.F.W. and the Eagle Bend American Legion. In his lifetime, John was able to vote for President of the United States, 12 different times. He enjoyed playing cards and visiting with the young and the old and was generous in helping those in need. Hunting and fishing in his spare time was an enjoyment for John.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Gaylon, a grandson Troy, four brothers and six sisters. He is survived by a daughter Rosemary (and John) Biel of Fort Worth, Texas, two sons DuWayne Pomerenke of Eagle Bend and Craig Pomerenke of Hewitt, three grandchildren, a sister Olga Cline of Hermeston, Oregon, along with 34 nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 8th, at Esther Lutheran Church, Eastern Township, rural Parkers Prairie with Rev. Kenneth Thiele officiating. Music was provided by organist Inez Haase and vocalist Wendy Irons. Burial was at the church cemetery with full military honors.

Pallbearers were Kevin Kern, Michael Schlosser, Tim Oberg, Brian Thorson, Darrell Randall and Eugene Arvidson.

The funeral service will be held tomorrow, the interment taking place in Le Mars.1
