Esther Ebsen was born on April 11, 1925, at Vermillion to Peter and Serena (Christensen) Ebsen. She graduated from Centerville High School in 1943. She then moved to Portland, Ore., and welded ships for the war effort. She had many jobs throughout her life, but had a career at Ven Sioux Distilled Water in Sioux Falls in the sales and warehouse department. She married Myron Abraham on Nov. 26, 1965, at Sioux Falls. She did volunteer work at the VA Hospital, where she received an award for 11 years of service.

She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and RSVP, and was a supervisor at the county courthouse polls during elections.

Survivors include two sons, James (Terry) Colwell of Topeka, Kan., and Gary (Sheri) Colwell of Sioux Falls; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wayne (Betty) Ebsen of Pipestone, Minn., and Curtis (Virginia) Ebsen of Madison; two sisters, Emma Flanery of Rapid City, and Mary Ann (Jim) Hyland of Madison.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Myron; two brothers, Leonard and John Ebsen; and a sister, Anne Willenburg.

She belonged to St. Boniface Catholic church and its Rosary society; was a board member of the Good Shepherd auxiliary, was on the girl scout council at St. Boniface parish and belonged to the Catholic Daughters of America. She was financial secretary of Court Ave Maria of the C. D. A. for two terms before retiring last spring. Survivors include the widower; two daughters, Mrs. William Eimers of Omaha and Miss Sharon Abraham of the home; her mother Mrs. Anna Paskert of LeMars, IA; a brother Everald Paskert of Remsen, and one grandchild. The box was taken to the Mannin-O'Toole funeral home.1

Mr. Paskert owned and operated a (?) station at Remsen from 1926 until 1949 and established the Home Oil Company there. The family moved to Le Mars in 1949. Mr. Paskert was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic church at Remsen and of Msgr. Sebemmer council, Knights of Columbus there. Survivors include the widow; a daughter, (Vera) Mrs. George Abraham of Sioux City; a son, Everald of Remsen; a sister, Mrs. Michael Frank of Sioux City; and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 9:30 am Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic church in Le Mars. Rt. Rev. Msgr. J. D. Fisch will officiate and burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery at Remsen under direction of the Wiltgen-Luedtke funeral home. The rosary will be recited at 8pm Monday (tonight) at the funeral home. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon on Monday until service time. He was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Paul Paskert.1

Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Wednesday, with a parish rosary at 3 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 8 p.m., all at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.
Mr. Paskert was born Dec. 15, 1912, in rural Remsen, the son of Anton and Anna (Neisius) Paskert. He was raised and educated in the Remsen area, graduating from St. Mary's High School in 1930. He then attended the National Business Training School in Sioux City, graduating with a degree in accounting.
He farmed near Remsen.
He married Lucille Gibbons on May 22, 1945, in Akron, Iowa. The couple retired and moved into Remsen in 1979.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Ronald and Judy of Urbandale, Iowa, and Tony and Tammy of Remsen; a daughter and her husband, Pat and Gary Lewis of Sioux City; and six grandchildren, Luke, Becky, Katie, Kelsey and Coleton Paskert and Ann Hughes.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Hughes; and a sister, Vera Abraham.

He married Phyllis Johnson on March 19, 1952 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elk Point. The couple resided on a farm north of Spink. He also was an agent/director for Farm Mutual Fire and Wind Insurance Company. He was a member of Brule Creek Lutheran Church and served on the Spink Township board. Among his hobbies and interests, he loved gardening and woodworking. He took great pride in his rose garden, yard and spent his time playing bingo. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; a son, Larry (Holly) Solem of Spink; a daughter, Kathy Solem of Beresford, SD; a grandson, Ben Solem of Spink; granddaughters, Tami (Brad) Olsen of Beresford, Jamie (Mark) Hoffman of Ethan, SD, and Melissa Fickbohm of Beresford; eight great-grandchildren, Katana and David Olsen, Austen and Emiley Hoffman, Riley and Aubrey Twedt, and Irelyn and Jax Stanlee Fickbohm; a sister, Vivian Johnson of Beresford; and his faithful dog, Sandy. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Selma Solem.
