Lloyd Saugstad was born October 6, 1918 in Norway Township, Lincoln County, SD to parents Andrew and Randine (Saugstad) Saugstad. He died Tuesday, June 13, 2006 in Beresford at the age of 87 years, eight months and seven days. Lloyd was baptized and confirmed at Romsdal Lutheran Church and educated at Elmwood country school. He was raised on the same farm where he lived his entire life. He was a farmer and livestock producer and also a general trucker. Lloyd married Alice Jervik on March 4, 1938 in Menno, SD. He liked bowling, fishing and pitching horseshoes when he was younger. Lloyd retired from farming in the mid 1990's. He later drove bus for the Alcester Schools and was a road maintainer operator. Lloyd was a life member of Romsdal Lutheran Church; a member of the Norway Township Board, Sons of Norway and the Elmwood School District. He enjoyed spending time with his family and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife, Alice of rural Hudson; children, Lloyal Saugstad and his wife Sharon of Waubay, SD, Leland Saugstad and his wife Jean of Beresford, L. Douglas "Babe" Saugstad and his wife Sandy of Alcester, Kathleen "Sis" Lykken of Hudson and Paul Saugstad and his wife Mary Ellen of Beresford; 19 grandchildren; four step- grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and six step-great grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Florence Hutmacher of Scotland and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, Andrew and Randine; four brothers, Michael, Mikkal, Orville and Ray; one sister, Ardis; one son, Ronald; and one granddaughter, Johanna.

She enjoyed quilting and a 63 year member of the Friendly Hour Club.

Survivors include her children, Lloyal Saugstad and his wife Sharon of Waubay, SD, Leland Saugstad and his wife Jean of Beresford, Lloyd Douglas "Babe" Saugstad and his wife Sandra of Alcester, Kathleen "Sis" Lykken of Hudson and Paul Saugstad and his wife Mary Ellen of Beresford; 23 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Berniece (Mrs. Martin) Anderson of Beresford; one sister-in-law, Mildred (Mrs. Leonard) Jervik of Calif. and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Lloyd; son, Ronald; one granddaughter, Johanna; and four brothers, Leonard, Stanwood, and twins, Clifford and Clarence.

Funeral services for Alice will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 19, 2008 at Romsdal Lutheran Church, rural Beresford. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford with the family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

He is survived by his wife Jean of Beresford; , three sons, Ronnie (Wanda) Saugstad of Beresford, Ryan (Teresa) Saugstad of South Sioux City, NE and Erik (Angie) Saugstad of Beresford; 8 grandchildren, three brothers, Lloyd Doug “Babe” (Sandra) of Alcester, Paul (Mary Ellen) Saugstad of Beresford and Lloyal (Sharon) Saugstad of Waubay, SD; sister, Kathleen Lykken of Hudson, SD. His parents, brother, Ronald, and son, Jason, preceded him in death.

A memorial gathering for Leland Saugstad will be from 2-4PM Friday, March 11th at Klassix (formerly the VFW Legion Hall) in Beresford.

She had many loves in her life, her flowers and gardening, Elvis Presley, cooking and baking for family holidays, word search and crossword puzzles, but most of all, Jean loved her family.

She is survived by her two sons, Ryan (Teresa) Saugstad of South Sioux City, NE and Erik (Angie) Saugstad of Beresford; her grandkids, Heather, Ashley, Jonathan, Dayton, Devan, Dawson, Isaac and Rachel; three great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Beckett and Hayes; her sister, Cynthia of Centerville; and daughter-in-law, Wanda Saugstad. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, Ronnie and Jason; her parents, a brother, Ed; and one sister, Rozan.

A memorial service will be held at 7PM on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford. Visitation with the family present will be 5-7PM Thursday at the funeral home.

Following graduation, she attended Eastern State Normal School at Madison where she received her teaching certificate. Delores married her classmate, Jules Welch on June 30, 1955. They were blessed with 5 children, Marsha, Karen, Neal, Gary and Dean. They raised their family in the Beresford area where Delores was a teacher. She began her teaching career in rural schools in Lincoln County and Union County, then at Beresford Public School. In 1971, she received her BS in Education from the University of South Dakota. She retired 1993 but returned in 1994 to work at the Beresford School Title Program. Delores was baptized as an infant at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hinton, IA. She was a member of Zion Evangelical Church of N.E. Beresford and later became a member of Assembly of God (Gospel Tabernacle) where she received another baptism on July 27, 1980. Delores’ faith was very important to her. As her health began to decline and attending church services became difficult, she enjoyed the TV ministries of Pastors John Hagee, Matt Hagee, Harold Salem and many others. Delores is survived by her children, Marsha (Dan) Thompson, Centerville, SD, Karen Hatle, Harrisburg, SD, Neal (Bernice) Welch, Port Orchard, WA, Gary Welch, Harrisburg, SD and Dean Welch, Harrisburg, SD; 9 grandchildren, Stacey (Jason) Lihs, Justin (Wendy) Thompson, Matthew (Emily) Thompson, Sage Welch, Nathan (Andrea) Hatle, Kathryn Welch, Emily Welch, Amanda Welch and Mikayla Welch; 12 great-grandchildren, Madison, Morgan, Molly and Alex Lihs, Arlee, Elsey, Lillian, Alyda and Harlan Thompson, Helen Thompson, and Clayton and Kloie Ann Hatle; and many family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jules, in 2004; her parents, George and Hertha; grandson, Shaun Welch; son-in-law, Don Hatle; her brothers, Kenneth and Paul Voegeli; sister-in-law, Marlys Twedt; and numerous family members.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, February 26 at Komstad Covenant Church, Beresford, SD. Phyllis’ family will be present to greet friends from 5:00-7:00 PM on Sunday, February 25 at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford, SD, followed by a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Phyllis was born December 17, 1927 to Thomas and Gay (Lunning) Ostrem. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church rural Centerville. She attended Ireland Country School and graduated from Centerville High School. She received Teaching Certificate from Yankton College and taught at Ireland and Euclid Country schools. Phyllis was united in marriage to Gordon Larson on June 21, 1947 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Centerville. To this union they had five children. They farmed in the rural Centerville and Beresford areas until moving to Beresford in 1986. Phyllis became a member of Komstad Covenant Church, her church and faith was a very important part of her life. She was involved in Ladies Aid, Choir, Circle, and taught Sunday School. She also served on many church Boards. She worked in the Beresford School System for 10 years and after that time she retired and went to work with the Bright Beginnings Day Care. Phyllis loved her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was always willing to babysit and was fortunate to be able to babysit some of her great grandchildren. In her free time, she enjoyed playing her piano, embroidery work, flowers and playing scrabble with whoever thought they could beat her. Mom and Dad enjoyed their many Ostrem family fishing trips and travels across the country with friends and family in the turquoise and white conversion van. She is survived by and will be greatly missed by her five children: Linda (Tom) Erickson of Beresford, Jerrine Worley Ostenson of Eden Prairie, MN., Chuck (Diane) Larson of Beresford, Greg (Sharron) Larson of Beresford and Gail (Craig) Andersen of Centerville; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one sister, Anna Mae (Norman) Nelson of Centerville and one brother, Boyd Ostrem of Centerville. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gordon, granddaughter Kayla Larson, brothers Bob, Clarence (Bub), and Arnie Ostrem and sisters Leone (Russell) Anderson and Joyce (Eldon) Edman.
