He was the son of Clarence Bert Langkamp and Emma Caroline Launspach.
Marriage16 January 1951Harold Eugene Langkamp married Maria Gaa on 16 January 1951.
Death2 December 2018Harold Eugene Langkamp died on 2 December 2018 at Dubuque, Dubuque, Iowa, at age 89 Harold E. Langkamp, age 89, of Dubuque, IA, was called home peacefully at 9:05 p.m. on Sunday, December 2, 2018, at ManorCare Health Services, surrounded by his loving family.

To honor Harold’s life, funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2018, at St. Patrick’s Church, 1425 Iowa Street, with Msgr. Thomas E. Toale officiating. To celebrate Harold’s life, family and friends may visit from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, December 7, 2018, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, where there will be a parish scripture wake service held at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Harold was born on May 13, 1929, in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Clarence and Emma (Launspach) Langkamp.

Harold honorably served his country with the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1954 in Germany, where he would meet the love of his life, Maria Gaa. The young couple would be united in marriage on January 16, 1951, in Germany, and the two were blessed with 65 wonderful years together, and five children, before Maria was called home ahead of him on August 8, 2016.

Harold was raised with a strong work ethic, and devoted his time and talents to Morrison Brothers for 40-plus years, until his well-earned retirement. He was also quite handy with a tool belt, and enjoyed tinkering and working on projects around the house. In his younger days, Harold enjoyed spending time in the great outdoors hunting and fishing, and in later years went out walking as often as he could. Harold was quite a card shark, a skill he looked forward to teaching all of the children and grandchildren, and was well known for starting them out at a very young age. He was always up for a spirited game of Euchre or Poker with the family, and would occasionally test his skills and luck at the Casino.

Harold’s sense of humor was legendary. He had a playful, joking personality, as well as a sweet way of flirting with the ladies, making sure they all felt beautiful and special. Family, beyond a doubt, brought the greatest joy into Harold’s days, he especially loved any chance that came his way to play with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We are deeply saddened at the loss of such a wonderful, devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, but take comfort in knowing that he and his beloved wife, Maria, are now once again reunited in their Heavenly home.

Those left to cherish Harold’s memory include his children, Harold Langkamp Jr., Giselle Langkamp, Willy Langkamp, Lana Sheldon and Sandy Parker, all of Dubuque, IA; his grandchildren, Amanda (Brian) Wlochal, Brett Langkamp, Jennifer (Bill Hattula) Sheldon and Matthew Parker; his great-grandchildren, Alyssa Sheldon, Michael Wlochal, Zachary Wlochal, Riley Langkamp, Samantha Wlochal and Abigail Hattula; his siblings, Arnold “Bub” Langkamp and Shirley Chapman, both of Dubuque, IA; and a brother-in-law, Tom Piehl, Atlanta, GA.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Maria Langkamp; and his siblings, Leonard (Delores) Langkamp, Merlin “Mac” (Darlene) Langkamp and Beverly Piehl; and a brother-in-law, James “Jim” Chapman.
