Burial was in the church cemetery under direction of the Mauer funeral home.

Mr. Baack, was born Feb. 5, 1926, in Reading township, Sioux county, Iowa to Carl and Katherine Plueger Baack. He lived in Sioux county until 1950, moving to a farm in Plymouth county. He served as a mailman and also farmed since 1961. The family moved to Le Mars in 1972. Mr. Baack served 19 years and 10 months with the United States post office. He was the Le Mars downtown letter carrier for 17 years. He was active in Brunsville's Heeren-McHale post Legion club and a veteran of World War 2. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran church in Craig.

He married LaVonne Jurgensen August 22, 1948 at Trinity Lutheran church in Akron.

He is survived by his wife, LaVonne, Le Mars; a daughter, Mrs. Tim (Susan) Bachman, Denver; two sons, Dennis of Sheldon and Jim of Le Mars; one grandson; his mother, Mrs. Katherine Baack, Le Mars; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Klemme, Le Mars and Mrs. Donald (Doris) Haage, rural Akron; and a brother, Duane Baack, Denver.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Congregational hymns sung were "How Great Thou Art" and "Lift High The Cross". Burial was in Riverside cemetery, Akron, under direction of Schroeder Funeral home. Pallbearers were Heath Hillrichs, Clint Nielsen, Terry Dolan, Troy Dolan, LaMont Rohlfs, Amy Nielsen, Heather Hillrichs, Leslie Dolan.

Mrs. Klemme was born March 20, 1913 at Kingsley, Iowa, daughter of Gustav and Anna (Roloffs) Friske. She married Edwin Hillrichs November 17, 1938 in Preston township, rural Akron. He died Sept. 18, 1949. She married Harry Hillrichs March 20, 1952 in Sioux City. He died Feb. 20, 1976. She later married Walter Klemme Aug. 21, 1983 in Akron. She had farmed in the Akron area until 1971, when she moved to Le Mars, She moved back to Akron in 1976. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She had been baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran church in Akron. She was a member of the ELCA and Rural Home Culture club in Akron.

Survivors include her husband, Walter of Akron; two daughters, Joann and her husband Bill Dolan of Beresford, and Darlis Nielsen of Akron; a son and his wife, Gary and Charlotte Hillrichs of Akron; a sister, Edna Friske of Hawarden; a brother, Paul Friske of Akron; seven grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. In addition to her first two husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Freida Scheld and Mary Balk; a brother, Arthur and a grandson, Rusty Hillrichs.

Christopher Al Walrod was born Nov. 11, 1971, in Hawarden, Iowa, the son of Robert and Gail (Klemme) Walrod. He was baptized at Preston Township Lutheran Church and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. He graduated from Akron Westfield High School in 1989. Chris lived two years at Opportunities Unlimited in Sioux City.

He was a Boy Scout and was one patch away from obtaining his Eagle Scout. He was a Little League coach in Akron. In his free time, he was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and Iowa State fan and all around sports fan. He loved to watch high school wrestling and other high school sports, but most of all he loved to watch his two younger brothers play the sports they were involved in during high school.

Survivors include his parents, Robert and Gail Walrod of Akron; two brothers, Austin Walrod and Jenny Junck of Sioux City and Robert "Bobby" Walrod of Akron; maternal grandmother, Evelyn Gronemeyer of Hawarden, Iowa; paternal grandmother, Pearl Ringgenberg of Carol, Iowa; his special friends, Don Allaway Jr., Wayne Theeler and Greg and Lisa Keine; his godparents, Mark Kowalke, Gloria Kowalke and Ellen Renken; his aunts and uncles, Rich and Linda Walrod, Ron and Shirley Walrod, Mark Kowalke, Ellen Renken, Chuck Renken and Gloria Kowalke; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Al Walrod; maternal grandfather, Norman Klemme; and stepgrandfathers, Glen Gronemeyer and Russ Ringgenberg.

Howard Russell Nygard was born In Sioux Valley Township, Union County, South Dakota, July 16, 1903. His parents were Otto and Alma Nygard. On September 13, 1903, he was baptized at the Brule Creek Lutheran Church. As a young man he became an adult member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church through Confirmation and had been a member in good standing of this church ever since. On July 1, 1925, at a wedding in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, he was united in marriage to Miss Bertha L. Sommervold. He resided in Akron for about 21 years, then moved to Hawarden where he had been a resident for the last 25 years. Mr. Nygard had been In the trucking business during most of his life and thus was well known in many areas through his., service to people. Howard was a friendly, good-natured person who seemed to radiate cheerfulness and geniality wherever he was.

Among those who survive his departure are: his wife, Mrs. Bertha Nygard of Hawarden; his daughter, Mrs. JoAnn Schipper of Ireton, Iowa; his son, Gerald Nygard of Hawarden his brother, Clifford Nygard of Akron; his four grandchildren and his many other relatives and friends.

The funeral service in his memory was held In Immanuel Lutheran Church, last Saturday forenoon, with Pastor David J. Roy, officiating. Carol Harris was soloist and was accompanied by Mrs. Henning Shoulberg, organist. Those who served as pallbearers were nephews of Mr. Nygard: Raymond Johnson, Richard Sommervold, James Sommervold, Gorman Nygard, Richard Nygard and Robert Hanson,

Interment was In Riverside Cemetery at Akron, under the direction of Schroeder Funeral Home.

JoAnn Ardis Nygard was born on February 8, 1926 in Akron, Iowa, the daughter of Howard and Bertha (Sommervold) Nygard. She married Andrew Schipper on July 1, 1950 in Akron. They made their home in Ireton, Iowa where JoAnn taught Kindergarten and Andy was the postmaster.
She enjoyed crocheting, reading, baking, and spending time with her family. Her hobby was collecting angels.

Those left to cherish JoAnn's memory are her loving husband, Andy; her four children, Andrea (Butch) Southard of Marshalltown, Iowa, Kirk (Cindy) Schipper of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Paula (Rich) Hohn also of Sioux Falls, and Lori (Bruce) Van Buskirk of Beresford, South Dakota; her grandchildren, Emily Southard, Taylor Schipper, Sam Schipper, Matt Hohn, Krista (Jerrod) Mann, Brady Van Buskirk, and Jenna Van Buskirk: and her brother, Gerald Nygard of Hawarden, Iowa.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her father and mother, Howard and Bertha Nygard.

Gerald Kenneth Nygard was born June 26, 1940 in Akron, Iowa, the son of Howard R. and Bertha (Sommervold) Nygard. He graduated from Hawarden High School in 1958. Gerald served in the Army National Guard of Arkansas where he enlisted in August 1963 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He was honorably discharged from the guard at Harrison, Arkansas on August 4, 1969. Gerald married Rosangela Gago Amaro on July 19, 2012 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was a buyer and seller of cars and cattle. Gerald enjoyed visiting with others and liked having coffee at Casey’s and talking with friends.

He is survived by his wife and other family members. Gerald made many friends over the years through his sales.
