Charles (Chuck) was born January 30, 1928 to Joseph and Estella Richard of Melbourne, IA. Chuck married Dorothy Stalzer on October 12, 1953 in Haverhill, IA. He farmed with his father from 1946-1954. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956 during the Korean War. Chuck farmed after he got out of the military and was hired as a plant manager of Farm Bureau in Jewell, IA, in 1966. He retired in 1992 and managed the Jewell Golf and Country Club and was a bus driver for South Hamilton School District.

He served as a Mayor and a councilman of the city of Jewell. He was involved in the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and the Jewell Lions Club. Chuck was a member of the Good Shepherd Church in Jewell and later became a member of St. Cecilia, in Ames, IA, and most recently, St. Henry, in Marshalltown, IA. He was also a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. Dad enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. His favorite activities included woodworking and fishing.

Chuck will be missed by his four sons, Stanley (Kris) Richard of Urbandale, IA, Jeffrey (Sue) Richard of Cibolo, TX, Gregory (Laura) Richard of Ft. Collins, CO, Michael (Susan) Richard of Holstein, IA, a daughter Jeannie (Mark) Allgood of Ankeny, IA, fourteen grandchildren, one brother, John Richard, two sisters; Madalyn Stone and Mary Kay Swift, and two step sisters; Marian Richard and Barbara Schon.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, two step brothers; Joseph Richard and Maurice Richard, and his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held for Charles L. Richard, 86, on Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at St. Henry Catholic Church in Marshalltown, IA, with Father Don Czapla officiating, organist Jan Kluck, and vocalist Karen Mroz.

Pallbearers were Brian Schon, Robert Stone, James Stone, Logan Richard, John Richard and Jason Richard.

Honorary Bearers were Robert Richard, Gerald Richard, and Charles Timothy Richard.

Charles was laid to rest at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Haverhill, Iowa.

Anderson Funeral Homes were entrusted with the arrangements.

Dorothy was born April 5, 1933 to John and Theresa Stalzer. She was baptized at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Haverhill, IA. Dorothy attended St. Joseph's School in Haverhill, and High School at St. Mary’s in Marshalltown. After high school she worked at Swift & Co. in Marshalltown. On October 12, 1953 she was united in marriage to Charles Richard. The couple resided in Haverhill until he was drafted in May of 1954. They were stationed in Ft. Monmouth, New Jersey, where their first son, Stanley, was born. When Charles finished his schooling, the family was transferred to Ft. Huachuca, Arizona, where they stayed until his discharge in 1956. The family returned to Haverhill where they welcomed sons Jeffrey, Gregory, Michael, and daughter Jeanine. The family moved to Jewell, IA in 1966.

Dorothy was a stay-at-home mom until her children were in school and then did some babysitting at her home with the neighborhood children. Dorothy loved to crochet and made beautiful doilies for family and to sell. Dorothy also worked for the local newspaper for many years, and for 4 years at the golf course.

Dorothy was a member of the Good Shepard Church in Jewell and later became a member of St. Cecilia, in Ames and most recently, St. Henry, in Marshalltown. She was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.

Dorothy will be missed by her husband Charles, four sons, Stanley (Kris) Richard of Urbandale, IA, Jeffrey (Sue) Richard of Cibolo, TX, Gregory (Laura) Richard of Ft. Collins, CO, Michael (Susan) Richard of Holstien, IA, a daughter Jeanine (Mark) Allgood of Ankeny, IA, fourteen grandchildren, three sisters; Irene, Ann, Mary and a brother Lester.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters; Ethel, Elsie, and Irma, and two brothers Clarence, and Glenn.
