Jean was born on October 1, 1927 in Dubuque, Iowa the daughter of J. Walter and Rufine (Busch) Jungels. She married Alan Kean and together they had five children.

She graduated from Clarke College and took graduate courses at the University of Iowa. Jean had a lifelong commitment to education starting her career as a teacher in Maquoketa, Iowa. Over the years she attended classes at Clarke College, Loras College and the University of Dubuque. She also worked at the Telegraph Herald and Interstate Power before marrying Alan and raising their family. Jean was a beloved and devoted mother.

She was a member of the Theresians, the Mother’s Club and the Clarke College Sorority Club. She also volunteered at polling locations on election days.

Jean is survived by three sisters, Anne (Tom) Eulberg, Carole (T.J.) Welu and Joy (Tom) Beacom. Five children, Kathy (Alan) Wedig, Steve (Melissa) Kean, Karen (Doug) Reiman, Phil Kean and Robert (Diane) Kean; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 42 years Alan, and her sister Mary (Paul) Frith.

He graduated from Loras Academy.

He served his country in the Army 9th Air Force ETO, 412th Fighter Squadron from 1943 to 1945 during World War II.

He was a member of American Legion Post 6 and the United Auto Workers Local 94 retirees.

He retired from John Deere Dubuque Works on Aug. 1, 1982, after 35 years of service, he had worked as an inspector.

He enjoyed spending time in his vegetable and flower gardens, but he especially enjoyed being with his family and grandchildren.

Surviving is his wife, Maxine Egan, of Dubuque; two daughters, Katherine, at home and Mary (Vern) Winker, of Blue Mound, Wis; two sons, John (Mary Kay) Egan and James (Barbara) Egan, both of Dubuque; five grandchildren, Sarah, of Chicago, Douglas, Cynthia and Carolyn Egan, all of Dubuque, and Jason Noal, of Blue Mound; two brothers, Edward (Alice) Egan and Patrick (Gloria) Egan; and a sister, Anna Mae Egan.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

She was born February 25, 1920 in North Buena Vista, IA, daughter of the late Albert and Louise "Lucy" (Rinicker) Kloser. Marie married the love of her life, George Pluemer, on June 18, 1955. He preceded her in death on November 4, 2017. Marie was always busy and had many avocations. She was a passionate gardener, and a longtime member and leader of the Wisconsin Chapter of Garden Club of America. She studied for years to become an Instructor of Horticulture and Master Flower Judge. Many of you also know her as the Avon Lady, a role in which she served for many years. Additionally, Marie was an avid Green Bay Packer fan (and overall sports enthusiast by marriage!). She was a longtime member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Appleton, where she attended Mass most days, served communion, visited shut-ins, and tended to the flower arrangements for many, many years. She continued to pray daily for family, friends and strangers from St. Pius and elsewhere until she passed. Marie’s greatest joy was her family, and she is survived by multiple generations including her children: Ann (Christopher) Barber, San Francisco, CA; James, Orange, CA; and Donald (Patricia) Stronck, Council Bluffs, IA; and, her grandchildren; Alexandra and Andrew Barber; Jard and Jace Pluemer; Peter Stronck; John (Becky) Stronck; Sara (Michael) Kuebler; and, Scott (Ashley) Stronck. Her great-grandchildren include Emily, Gabriel, Natalie, and Connor Stronck, and Christian, Nathaniel and Ella Marie Kuebler. Marie is also survived by her sister, Ann Bjorneby; brothers, John (Rita) Kloser and Herman Kloser; sister-in-law, Delores Kloser, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Stronck, from whom she was widowed at a young age; her daughter, Emilie (Stronck) Kennison, who passed away earlier this year; sisters: Sister Bertha Marie Kloser; Louisa Kloser; Loretta (Al) Frieberg; Florance (Bud) Hefel; and Fran (Raymond) Steffens; and, brothers: Albert (Germaine) Kloser Jr., and Joe Kloser. To honor Marie’s life, a Mass of Christian burial will occur Saturday, September 29, 2018 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 500 W. Marquette St., Appleton with Fr. Adam Bradley officiating.
