Funeral arrangements for Mrs. Margaret M. Ross, Billings pioneer, who died Sunday night, will be made after word is received from out-of-town relatives. Mrs. Ross died at the home or her son, Ora W. Nickey, North Thirty-third street, after a six-month illness. She was 80 years old and had been a resident of Billings for . years. Mrs. Ross was born in Wales. Nov. 23, 1846 the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Evan Evans, and came to this country with her parents when 3 years old. They settled in Wisconsin where she attended the common schools and she was married on March 13, 1869, to Jerome J. Nickey. The Nickey family came to Billings where Mr. Nickey was engaged in the hotel business and later in contracting and mining enterprises until his death May, 1896. A number of years later, she was married to Dan A. Ross, local contractor, who survives. Mrs. Ross was a member of the First Congregational church of this city and for many years was very active in the Ladies' Aid and other organizations connected with the church, giving much of her time to its work. She was also active in the social life of the city until the last few years. Four children survive her: Mrs. James Fraser, Miss Blanche Nickey, Ora W. Nickey and Frank II. Nickey. all of Billings. She is also survived by two sisters and a brother. Mrs. Mary J. MacDonald, Bellingham. Wash; Mrs. Sarah Davies, Spring Green, Wis., and David Evans of Melrose.

Maxine was very proud of her Irish heritage, she had a great memory and was known as a historian for the Loreto area. She enjoyed gardening and time with family and friends.
Survivors include her children, Pat McCluskey of Plain, Helen (Tom) Massa of New Jersey, Tim (Shirley) McCluskey of Plain, Maureen McCluskey of Lodi. Grandchildren Tom and Jackie McCluskey, great grandchild Kylee Wallace, and a brother Dennis Scallon.

She is preceded in death by her parents Frank and Winnie Scallon, her husband Tom, 3 sons Eugene, John, Tom and 10 brothers and sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Loreto Ridge. Fr. Larry Bowens will officiate with burial in Our Lady of the Field’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 15, 2011 from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Loreto Ridge and on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. The Richardson-Stafford Funeral Home in Spring Green is assisting the family with arrangements.

Her later years were spent working at the Lone Rock Public Library. Janet was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Janet is survived by her seven children and their spouses, Dennis(Barbara) Dolan of Kearney, Mo., Sheila(Jayme) Kujava of Green Bay, Paul(Sue Ellen) Dolan of Middleton, Shannon( Galen) Strebe of Madison, Theresa Dolan of Richland Center, Jane(Ralph) Porpora of Pennington, N.J. and Jennifer(Jim) Kray of Appleton; her grandchildren, Emily(Matt), Dana, Andrea(Doug), Lanae, Ellie, Georgia, Kari, Lydia, Tony, Amelia, Lindsay, James, Marc, and Steven; a great-granddaughter, McKenzie; a stepgrandson, Kris; and step-great-granddaughter, Selena; two brothers, Vincent and Dennis Scallon; a sister, Maxine McClusky; four sisters-in-law, Rita, Delphine and Eileen Scallon, and Joanne Boyle; and many other nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Death8 July 2012Dennis Scallon died on 8 July 2012 at age 82 Dennis Emmett Scallon, age 82, passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, July 8, 2012.

He was born on Oct. 4, 1929, in Boscobel, the son of Frank and Winifred (Phelan) Scallon. Dennis was one of 11 children, and an identical twin to Daniel. He graduated from Spring Green High School, married Rita Baryenbruch on June 6, 1953, in Spring Green, and together they moved to Madison. He worked briefly at Oscar Mayer in Madison. Dennis then joined the U.S. Air Force, serving his country in active duty during the Korean conflict. After returning from Korea, he continued his career in the Air National Guard for 36 years, retiring with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Dennis was especially proud of his role in maintaining an impeccable safety record as flight line supervisor.

He loved sports all his life, both as an athlete and as a fan; and he also loved flying. Dennis was proud of his Irish heritage, and he loved to laugh, play cards, and tell stories with his many friends, including "The Sweethearts." He was a loving and proud father and grandfather to his six children and 14 grandchildren. Dennis was a longstanding member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. His faith was very important to him.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Rita; and children, Nancy (Tim) Valentyn of Verona, Monie Scallon (Miguel Mostaza) of Madrid, Spain, Kevin (Betsy) Scallon of Cross Plains, Debbie Fairweather of Batavia, Ill., Greg (Shelly) Scallon of Chanhassen, Minn., and Peggy Scallon (Mark Redsten) of Madison. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Kenzi, Brett and Connor Valentyn; Daniel and Alexandra Mostaza Scallon; Katie, Andrew and Sarah Scallon; Ian and Dylan Fairweather; Eli and Quinn Scallon; and Oliver and Genevieve Redsten.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Winifred; and siblings, Vincent, James, Philip, William, Esther, Maxine, Janet, Leroy, Eugene and Daniel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 13, 2012, with Father Bart Timmerman presiding. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens, near Cottage Grove. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 12, 2012, and also at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of Mass on Friday.

The family emigrated to America from County Mayo in the western part of Ireland, several of the children stopping at Pittsburg, Pa., and the parents and other children to Sauk County. About four years ago Mrs. Loughney went to live in Pittsburg. The funeral was held Wednesday, the 8th inst. at the Catholic church in Reedsburg and the burial was at Ironton as above stated.
