     Excerpt from "Historical Sketches of the Tracy and Tanner Families":
Nathaniel Tracy, a Revolutionary War soldier, was born, according to tradition, at Tracy's Landing, on the Chesapeake Bay, Maryland, where his ancestors settled ca. 1640. At about age 30, shortly beford the Revolutionary War, he migrated to North Carolina. There he married Mary Tidwell Hill, a young widow with four children. They had six children. The family migrated to Kentucky in 1796. He died in Henry County, Kentucky, in 1818. Children lived in Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana.

James Tracy (1785-1833), son of Nathaniel Tracy, was born in North Carolina, and Mary Tanner (1789-1848), daughter of Josiah Tanner, was born in South Carolina. They migrated to Kentucky with their families in 1796. They were married in Henry County, Kentucky, in 1804. They had fourteen children. The family migrated to Indiana ca. 1828 and settled in Jennings County, Indiana, near Vernon. Children and grandchildren lived in Indiana, Kentucky, and elsewhere.
