Ralph was born July 2, 1923 in Detroit. Son of the late Arthur and Gertrude (Mortenson) Umbreit. He married Kathleen Hoyt on July 5, 1970 in Deckerville.

Buster lived most of his life in the Forestville area. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and was an ex World War II Army P.O.W. Ralph was a member of the Minden City United Methodist Church. Buster enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and being with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen A. Umbreit of the Forestville area; two daughters, Shanda Golda and her husband, Fred, of Sterling Heights, Marla Pigozzi and her husband, Michael, of Fallston, Md; five grandchildren, Noelle Golda, Carley Golda, Garrett Burns, Christopher Pigozzi and Isabelle Pigozzi; one sister, Dorothy Oliphant of Cass City; one step-son, Robert Dawson of Clio; and several nieces and nephews.

Ralph was preceded in death by one sister, Arlo Prieskorn; three brothers, Art, Robert and Donald Umbreit.

A memorial service for Mr. Ralph “Buster” Umbreit will be Friday, Feb. 27, 2009 at 1 p.m. at the Smigielski Funeral Home, Cass Ave., Minden City. Pastor John Rapson of the Minden City United Methodist Church will officiate. Military honors will be provided by the Michigan National Guard Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from noon until the time of services at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
