  • Alice Harrell died on 28 October 1944 at Kinmundy, Marion, Illinois, at age 71 Alice HARRELL SEE, widow of the late Michael Henry SEE, died at her home in Kinmundy, Oct. 28, 1944. She was the daughter of William James HARRELL and Rachel PLESS, who came to Marion County from Indiana. She was born May 21, 1873 on a farm north of Salem. The family soon moved to Meacham twp. where Mrs. SEE grew to young womanhood and received her education at Rockhold School. On Oct. 28, 1891, she married Michael Henry SEE, and they had 7 children. A daughter, Georgia, died in infancy; a daughter, Charlene, wife of George MILLER died in 1934; and an only son, Hobart Harrell SEE, was killed in action in World War I on Aug. 8, 1918. Surviving are 4 daughters: Irene, wife of Glenn D. BRASEL of Hoopeston; Eunice, wife of John H. KETTLES of Chicago; Edith of White Plains, N.Y; Winifred, wife of Fred C. LAWERSIEK of St. Louis; 2 step-sons, Ellis L. SEE of Liberal, Kansas; and Otis E. SEE of Monmouth; a brother, Edwin HARRELL of Meacham twp; 2 sisters, Mrs. Florence REID of Mitchell, Ind; and Mrs. Edward MARSH of St. Cloud, Fla; 15 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. Mrs. SEE spent her entire life in or near Kinmundy with the exception of a year in Texas, when as a child with her parents, they made the trip by covered wagon passing through Indian territory enroute; later she and her husband resided in Shell City, Mo., but returned to Illinois within a year. She was a member of the Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxillary and the Royal Neighbors. Three of her grandsons are in the U.S. Army: George MILLER in France; Donald MILLER in Belgium; and Harold MILLER in the Pacific. The 2 former boys made their home with their grandmother for a number of years prior to their induction. In 1930 she was a member of the Gold Star Pilgrimage to the American Cemeteries of France to visit the burial place of her son.
     On 19 February 1931 Gold Star Mother, Mrs. M.H. SEE will visit France. She expects to sail on the steamship, "The President Harding", on June 13 from New York to France with the Gold Star Mother’s Pilgrimage to visit the U.S. Military Cemetery in France, where her son, Hobart H. SEE of Company A, 159th Infantry is buried. He was killed on Aug. 8, 1918 near Fismes, France, and is buried in an unknown grave in the Military Cemetery near Fereen-Tardenois.

MEREDITH, five miles north of Farmer City, Ill., occurred the marriage of their daughter Ella, to Ellis L. SEE. The groom is the son of M.H. SEE of Kinmundy his mother having died some time ago. He is an amiable and industrious young man while the bride he has won belongs to a respected family of good character. The ceremony was performed at 8 o’clock by Rev. Lee Anna STARR of the M.P. church, Farmer City, in the presence of about 50 guests. Immediately after the congratulations, they were invited to surround the table and delicious refreshments were served. After supper the time was spent in witty conversation and merry laughter. The occasion was especially a novelty on account of day being the anniversary of the bride’s parents. The bride wore a pretty dress of white material and carried a beautiful bouquet of pink and white carnations while the groom wore the conventional black. At a late hour the guests departed for their homes wishing Mr. and Mrs. SEE, a happy and prosperous journey over the great sea of matrimony. They will reside with the brides’ parents for awhile and then expect to make Kansas their home. - Farmer City Journal.

The bride is the youngest daughter of Mrs. A.C. NEWBIESER of Hegewisch and is a very charming young lady. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. M.H. SEE of near this city. He is an enterprising young man holding a responsible position with the Pennsylvania R.R. at Hegewisch. Mr. and Mrs. SEE will reside at Hammond, Ind. Their many friends extend congratulations.
