He married Joyce A. Ferdig Oct. 18, 1937. He attended the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology in Rapid City from 1937 to 1940 graduating with a civil engineering degree. He served in the military during World War II and was discharged in 1945. He worked at the Black Hills Ordinance Depot from 1946 to 1947 and from 1949 to 1958. In 1959 the couple moved to New Mexico where he worked at the White Sands Missile Range. He retired in 1973. Ferdig is survived by his wife, Joyce of Las Cruces; one son, Vincent of Fort Lauderdale, Fla; one daughter, Capt. Bernie Ferdig stationed at Fort Gordon, Ga. , four grandchildren, one great-grandson; one brother, Frank of Pittsburg, Pa., and two sisters, Evelyn Walton of Yankton and Rose Ferdig of Viborg.
