Pallbearers will be Jennifer Sullivan, Bryan Sullivan, Paul Kuck, Douglas Bender, Joshua Bender and Amalia McKenna.
Wally was born on January 29, 1923 in Menno, SD to Jacob and Carolina (Mettler) Bender. He was baptized and confirmed in the Salem Reformed Church and was a lifetime member where he served as an Elder on the consistory, assistant treasurer for the new church building committee and taught Sunday School. Wally served in the US Air Force from January 1943 and was honorably discharged in January 1946. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater from November 1944 to November 1945. Wally married Delores Schenkel on May 5, 1947 in Sioux Falls, SD. He worked for Wipf Appliance for 10 years then was a clerk at the US Post Office in Menno for 15 years and served as Postmaster for 12 years. Wally was active in his community serving on the city council and was Chairman of the Menno Bicentennial Committee.
Thankful for having shared in his life are his wife, Delores of Menno; sons, Douglas (Pam) Bender of Ipswich, MA, David of Menno; daughters, Lelonnie (Michael) Kuck of Brookings, SD, Sheila (Dale) McKenna of High Point, NC; 5 grandchildren, Jennifer Sullivan, Paul Kuck, Douglas Bender, Joshua Bender, Amalia McKenna and many nieces and nephews.
Wally is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Arthur, Theodore, Marvin; sisters, Edna Koerner and Metha Koerner.
