When she was nine months old she moved to the Yakima valley with her family and later attended various schools in the valley. On September 22, 1939 she married Helmer Valentine in Selah. Helmer and Mary lived in Selah for 43 years and raised their three children Mary Ellen, Judy, and Dan there. While living in Selah, Mary worked in the fruit industry. They were active members of the Selah United Methodist Church. Upon leaving Selah Helmer and Mary moved to Connell, WA where she worked for the Connell School District. In 1982 they both retired and moved back to Yakima. Mary was truly a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed family gatherings tremendously and always welcomed family and friends with her loving hospitality. Traveling was also a favorite thing for Mary. Mary is survived by her three children; Mary Ellen (Al) Schoonhoven, Judy (Steve) McDonald, and Dan (Carole) Valentine; seven grandchildren; Vicki (Greg) Fortier, John (Kristi) Schoonhoven, Brian (Vickie) Schoonhoven, Jo-Marie (Anthony) McDonald, Kelly (Jenny) McDonald, Shane (Suzanne) Valentine, and Eric (Kelly) Valentine; siblings; Lydia Payton, Al Frank, and Victor Frank; As well as 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death be her husband of 60 years, J. Helmer Valentine; siblings, Katie Weeks, Henry Frank, William Frank, Jake Frank, and George Frank. The family would like to thank all of the wonderful caregivers Mary has had for the last several years. Visitation will be offered Thursday from 1pm-7pm and Friday 8am-9:30am at Shaw & Sons Funeral Directors. Funeral services will take place Friday at 10am at Shaw & Sons Funeral Directors. Shaw & Sons Funeral Directors was entrusted with the arrangements.
