  • Raymond Rueben Gall was born on 15 November 1917 at Gregory, South Dakota.
  • He was the son of Balthaser James Gall and Magdalena Bentz.
  • Raymond Rueben Gall married LuElla Marie Peterson, daughter of Marcus Samuel Peterson and Lena Caroline Qualm, on 28 December 1943 at Fairfax, Gregory, South Dakota.
  • Raymond Rueben Gall died on 27 December 2003 at age 86 Raymond Rueben Gall, who was born on the family farm near Fairfax, S.D., on Nov. 15, 1917, to parents Balzar and Magdalena Gall, entered in death on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, at 2:35 a.m. in the Harmon House, Mount Pleasant, at the age of 86 years, 1 month, 12 days. Ray attended Star Valley rural grade school and graduated from Fairfax High School in 1935. On Dec. 28, 1943, LuElla Marie Peterson and Raymond were united in marriage at the Hope Congregational Church in Fairfax, S.D., where Ray made a joyous contribution of singing in the church choir, quartets and solos in the church. To this union, two children were born, Riley Ray and Nola Jean. Ray and his family made their home on the original Gall homestead site, where Ray farmed for 35 years before moving into a home in the town of Fairfax, S.D. Ray lived in the town until the year of 2000, when due to health reasons, he moved to Pennsylvania to live with his daughter, Nola. Ray had the joy and the gift of song. He loved to sing and play the saxophone. His love of music was brought to life when his wife LuElla, son and daughter joined him in forming the dance band, The Mello-Tones in 1962. His music was heard and enjoyed for hundreds of miles around his hometown of Fairfax, S.D. Visiting down at the local cafe, telling stories and telling his own jokes, Ray was a spark of great fun. Ray enjoyed traveling on many pre-arranged tours, where he often organized the sing-a-longs, stories and jokes as the buses traveled along the highways. Ray was active in his community as county commissioner, basketball scorekeeper (so he could get the best seat in the gym), an announcer of softball games, and M.C. at many local functions. Church played an important role in his life. Ray was not only an active vocalist, but served many positions on the church board as well as usher. Ray led a full and active rewarding life of family, church and community. All that gave him great joy and fulfillment. Gratefully for having shared his life, Ray is survived by his son, Riley and wife Janiece of Yankton, S.D., and daughter, Nola LoNigro and husband Sebastian of Mount Pleasant; grandsons, Scott Smith (Mel) of Omaha, Neb., Benjamin Gall (Jean) of Randolph, Neb., Adam Gall (Sherri) of Randolph, Neb. and John Gall of Norfolk, Neb; great-grandchildren, Jacob (7) and Abigail (4) Smith, Derek (7), Magdalena (4), Christian (3) and Brooklynn (2) Gall; a sister-in-law, Helen (Otto) Gall of Albany, Iowa; along with many nieces and nephews and special friend, Dorothy Wangsness. Raymond was preceded in death by his great-grandson, Dalton Benjamin Gall; his wife LuElla; his parents; two brothers, Edmund and Otto; five sisters, Frieda Lindgren, Kate Hoffman, Clara Sanders, Elsie Thurstenson and Doris Klundt. Family and friends were received in the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring St., Scottdale (724-887-5300/e-mail: fergfh@a1usa.net.), Sunday. Funeral services followed in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dennis M. Henley officiating. Additional visitation will be held in the Clausen Funeral Chapel in Burke, S.D. Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery, Fairfax, S.D. Love Lasts Forever!
