Albert was born Oct. 9, 1915, in the Town of Honey Creek, Sauk County, Wisconsin. He was the son of George and Rosa (Bender) Mellenthin. Albert married Marie McCormick on March 8, 1952, in St. Louis, Mo. After marriage, they continued to farm in Sauk County. Lather they moved to St. Louis. In 1965 they bought a farm in Eau Galle and farmed until their retirement in 1982. Albert was a member of the New Hope Lutheran Church in Downsville. He enjoyed farming and working outside. His children and grandchildren were most important to him. His wife, Marie, died June 10, 1984.
Albert is survived by a son, Martin (Heidi) Mellenthin of Eau Galle; a daughter, Margaret Davis of Boyceville; a step-son, Justin (Carolyn) Kniemeyer of Port Lucie, Fla; a step-daughter, Barbara Bourgerie of Zionsville, Ind; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Ashley, Angela and Anthony Mellenthin, Daniel Chevilicek and Jason Cradic; four step-grandchildren, Kathi Tarala, Jeffrey Bourgerie, Michael Bourgerie and Greg Kniemeyer; and eight step-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marie, a sister, Anna, and a brother, George.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2003, at New Hope Lutheran Church in Downsville with Rev. Steve Carlson officiating. Burial will be in Denzer United Methodist Cemetery in Denzer.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand and one hour prior to services at the church Tuesday.
Casket bearers will be Jennifer Mellenthin, Ashley Mellenthin, Angela Mellenthin, Anthony Mellenthin, Justin Kniemeyer and Dean Petzke.
