Death30 June 2005Nona Amanda Reddeman died on 30 June 2005 at age 87 Nona A. Reddeman, age 87, passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2005. Nona Amanda Reddeman was born Jan. 23, 1918, in Merrimac, Wis., to Louis and Hilda (Graff) Reddeman. After graduating from Sauk City High School, Nona attended the School of Cosmetology in Madison and began her career as a beautician. During World War II, she worked at the Badger Ordinance, testing gunpowder, a particularly dangerous assignment. Nona owned and operated the Salon of Beauty, at 120 W. Mifflin St., for more than 30 years and was admired by her many loyal patrons who would climb those steep steps each week. She was known for her love of children, flowers and birds, especially the elusive bluebird that she would try to coax to her birdhouses in the spring. Nona will be missed by all who know her, both before and after Alzheimer's limited her ability to communicate. She will be particularly missed by her sister, Lola Reddeman, with whom she has lived all her life. Her family includes her brother and sister-in-law, Neal and Norma Reddeman; as well as her nieces and nephews, Keith (Mary Lou) Getschman, Donna Purcell, Marian (Hurley) Jacobs, Diane Lee, Mark Reddeman, Nancy (Douglas Gurkin) Reddeman, Wendy (Tom) McCarty; and their families. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Cora and Elda; and infant twin brothers. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 4, 2005, at the MERRIMAC METHODIST CHURCH. Her family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Sebring Assisted Living who have lovingly cared for Nona this past year and the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center for providing a beautiful and peaceful setting for her final days.
