Survivors include his wife, Helen Bindl of Spring Green; five children, Wayne "Buzz" (Geri) Bindl of Spring Green, Connie (Leo) Ellefson of Middleton, Sandra Bindl and Ron Rego of Spring Green, Gary (JoAnn) Bindl of Spring Green, and Linda (John) Niesen of Cross Plains; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Schulte of Hillpoint, and Leona Jacobson of California; a sister-in-law, Vera Bindl of Spring Green; a brother-in-law, Gerald (Kathleen) Meise of Plain; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Veronica Bindl; two brothers, Clem and Theodore Bindl; a sister, Martha Meise; and two brothers-in-law, Louis and Earl Meise. Samuel John VanNatta died on 16 December 1847 at Harmony, Warren, New Jersey, at age 70.

Samuel Vannatta, b. about 1785, married Polly Snyder, who lived to the ripe age of 89 years. He resided on Scott Mountain, near Springtown, for a while, and about 1803 purchased a farm of one hundred and sixty acres in harmony township on the Delaware River, and there carried on farming during the remainder of his life. He also purchased the Snyder ferry, which he ran. This farm and ferry are now owned and carried on by his son Silas, who succeeded his father on the farm and in the transportation business of the ferry. Samuel Vannatta died in 1855, leaving twelve children, John, Henry, Nancy, Emily, Aaron, Moses, Sally, Elizabeth, Samuel, Silas, Mary and Lucinda. The couple to be married was Miss Jane Sprague and Mr. Sam Vanatta. They were married on Thursday. The attendants were Miss Julia Curnow and Mr. L. Vanatta, Miss Grace Curnow and Mr. Tom Emery and my humble self and Mr. Tom Sprague. Jennie was dressed very nicely and looked very beautiful Mr. Vanatta is good looking so of course they looked handsome. I hope Jennie has done well for she is a splendid girl and I think a great deal of her. I enjoyed myself real well when I was down home at the wedding and visiting my old friends."^1,2
