Death14 April 2012Willis August Hamburg died on 14 April 2012 at age 92 Willis A. Hamburg, 92, of Reedsburg, passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Sauk County Health Care Center in Reedsburg. He was born on January 28, 1920, the first son of John and Clara Hamburg. He married Dorothy Pfeil on June 14, 1944. Willis was employed as a butter maker for several years by the Hillpoint Co-Op Dairies and in his later years he was with Reedsburg Farmers Co-Op Station. Willis always looked forward to his trips to Las Vegas and loved to spend time with his dog, Sasha. He kept abreast of local and national news, and he was an avid fan of baseball, especially the Brewers and Cubs. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of almost 68 years, Reedsburg; his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Keith George, of Racine, his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Dang Hamburg, of Las Vegas; his sister-in-law, Alice Hamburg, of Reedsburg; two grandchildren, Shirley Villanueva, of Las Vegas, and Christopher George, of Ardmore, PA; three great-grandchildren, Matthew, Allison and Joshua Subin, Las Vegas; many nieces and nephews, and a great neighbor and friend, Bernard Rynkowski, of Reedsburg. Willis was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Hamburg, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary Alice and Earl Frye; Joe and Delores Pfeil, as well as his special little buddy, Sasha. A Memorial service will be held at the Hoof Funeral Home at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 with Deacon Tom Hale officiating. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. Private interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Reedsburg. The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Turner and all the staff at the Sauk County Health Care Center in Reedsburg for their support and kindness through the last few difficult months. We appreciate the love and excellent care you have shown Willis from the moment he joined you until he departed for his eternal home. The Hoof Funeral Home is serving the family.

Death12 June 2004Charles Byron Hamburg died on 12 June 2004 at age 73 Charles B. Hamburg, age 73, of Reedsburg, passed into eternal life unexpectedly on Saturday, June 12, 2004, at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. He was born on June 21, 1930 in the Township of Westfield, Sauk County, the son of John and Clara Hamburg. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. In 1956, he married Alice Halvensleben, his beloved spouse of 47 years. He was a faithful member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and served on numerous boards and committees. He was also a longtime radio monitor for the Sunday services. He served his country in the Korean Conflict in two different capacities; first with a medical battalion and then after graduating from the OCS, he went back as a forward observer for the artillery. After service, he returned to his job at The Reedsburg Bank. Charles held many different offices, retiring as the President/CEO in 1995, but still serving as Vice-Chairman of the Board with his career spanning 54 years. During his banking career, he attended different banking schools; AIB, UW School of Banking, Oklahoma National Commercial Lending School and its graduate school. He also held the office of President for the Sauk County Bankers Association, WI State chapter AIB, Capital City BAI Group II, WI Bankers Association and Chairman of the Bank Management Committee. In the community, he served on the Boards of the Library and Community Aid, Chairman of the United Fund Radio Auction, Lions Club, Commander of the American Legion Post 350, Correspondent 40 & 8, Sauk County #652, Board of the Reedsburg Memorial Hospital Foundation, Ridgeview Heights and Independent Living Corp. Survivors include his wife, Alice; a brother and sister-in-law, Willis and Dorothy Hamburg of Reedsburg; a number of special nieces and nephews, Sharon George of Racine, Richard Hamburg of Las Vegas, Nev., Lois and Gene Hackbarth of Reedsburg, Rolland and Peg Schmidt of New Glarus, Rebecca and Jody McDonough, Ashley and Aaron, of Waunakee, Don Hackbarth and Richelle of Reedsburg, Ruth and John Breitwisch and Peter of Merrill. He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, Otto and Martha Halvensleben; a brother-in-law, Donald Halvensleben; a sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Wilbert Schmidt; and a nephew, Douglas Hackbarth. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at ST PETER'S EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH in Reedsburg with the Rev. Kevin Kohnke officiating. Interment with military rites will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the HOOF FUNERAL HOME in Reedsburg. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Peter's Lutheran Church would be appreciated.
