Death30 June 2020William Joseph Magli Jr. died on 30 June 2020 at age 75 William “Bill” Magli, 75, of Benson, Arizona (and Rumely, MI), passed away peacefully with his wife Jenny by his side on June 30, 2020 at the Veterans Hospital in Tucson Arizona after a brief battle with lung cancer. In keeping with Bill’s wishes no formal services will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date and place to be determined.

Bill was born in Iowa County, Wisconsin on May 22, 1945. He grew up working on farms and tinkering with all sorts of motors and equipment, his true joy. This led into a lifetime of figuring out how to successfully fix pretty much everything he put his gifted hands on. If something didn’t run right…call Bill! He graduated from Spring Green High School in 1964. Following school, he was drafted into the United States Army, serving honorably during the Vietnam War. Later he worked for Gisholt Machine Company and then for a number of years as a mechanic for the Oscar Mayer Corporation in Madison, Wisconsin. After he had enough of four walls, he converted an old school bus into an RV, let his hair grow long and headed out for relaxation and sunshine in the Florida Keys. He soon met Jenny and they began a fun and ongoing adventure of traveling and working seasonally in a variety of beautiful places all around the country. Bill started his federal career with the National Park Service in 1984 at Death Valley National Monument in California and Nevada as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic. Four years later, he transferred and worked as the automotive mechanic in Spruce Pine, North Carolina (the Blue Ridge Parkway). In 1993, he transferred to Pictured Rocks Natl. Lakeshore in Munising, Michigan where he was the park's Automotive Mechanic. He maintained the lakeshore's fleet of motor vehicles, boats, and small engines. He even went to the “White House” with fellow maintenance employees to accept the White House “Closing the Circle” Award for their achievements in pollution prevention, recycling, acquisition of green products and use of Environmental Management Systems.

He eventually retired after a total of 27 years with the National Park Service. After retirement, more traveling ensued with a truck and a fifth wheel. Arizona became the preferred destination for escaping the winters in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. They both fell in love with beautiful southeast Arizona and that became their new home base. Bill married Jenny Stream on July 31, 1982. They were married just shy of 38 years but were together a total of 41 years.

Bill is survived by his wife Jenny and their fur kids Cailynn, Riley, Rocky and Rosie. He is also survived by his brother John “Jack” Magli, sisters Linda Peterson and Pat (Jerry) Paulus. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and other extended family and many wonderful friends both old and new.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Magli, Sr. and Alda (Pletzer) Magli; his sisters, Mary “Tootie” White, Joyce Stout, JoAnne Brockert, Donna Arias and Carolyn Dodson. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Alger County Animal Shelter in Munising Michigan.
