  • Research from Jerry Rothstein (8/2008): Hale E. Dewey of Washington is the same Hale Dewey who led a dance orchestra and taught music in Los Angeles. He appears in the 1922 and 1923 Los Angeles Directories as follows: Hale E. Dewey, music 304 S. Broadway, Rm 401, r 1127 Arapahoe. His brother Harold is listed in the 1924 Los Angeles Directory as a musician listed at 1102 Elden Avenue. During Hale E. Dewey's short time in Los Angeles, California, he led a band at a cafeteria in the Lowe's Theatre in downtown Los Angeles--this particular band, "Hale Dewey's Famous Orchestra" played in Van Nuys at the Knights of Pythias Hall in 1922 to raise money for the Sisters of Pythias. Hale's band also played, at no cost, in a Christmas show in Los Angeles for homeless men. It seems Hale was quite charitable. Hale resigned as Mayor of Edmunds in 1912 after a short time because of excess orchestra commitments.
  • On 19 January 1912 at Edmonds, Washington, Hale E. Dewey, Socialist Mayor of Edmonds.
  • On 5 June 1917 at World War I Draft Registration, Seattle, King, Washington, reported wife and child.
  • Hale Emerson Dewey was a violin teacher in 1920.
