Rose was born on August 23, 1915 at Menominee to Joseph and Anna (Kast) Kuchta. She attended school in Menominee and worked as a housekeeper and nanny for the Kabeisman family. Before her marriage she worked at the Collins Hotel in Yankton as a housekeeper and cleaned the room where Lawrence Welk stayed when his band played on WNAX Radio in Yankton. Rose was married to Edward Vornhagen by Rev. Otto Zillig on November 25, 1936 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Menominee. Over the next several years she cleaned homes in and around Yankton. Rose operated the cafi at Arnold Tramp's Station in East Yankton. She then operated Rosie's Coffee Cup in South Yankton and also worked at the Hitching Post Cafi when Gavins Point Dam was being built. Rose worked at Gurney's Seed and Nursery, Stuelpnagal's Egg Plant, and then in 1967 she began working at the Cimpl Meat Packing plant in Yankton until her retirement in 1980.
Rose is survived by 3 children and their spouses: Dorothy Gobel of Yankton, Arlene and Maynard Nieman of St. Helena, NE., Ralph and Cindy Vornhagen of South Yankton, a daughter in law, Donna Vornhagen of Yankton, 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Louise Collins of Wichita, Kansas, Juliana Pinkelman of Yankton, 3 sisters in law, Betty Vornhagen of Brentwood, CA., Rita Vornhagen of Niobrara, NE., Kay Vornhagen of Petaluma, CA and a brother in law, Francis "Dick" and Margaret Vornhagen of Conroe, Texas.

He attended school in Fordyce, Nebraska, and worked as a farm hand for Alphonse Schulte where he learned the blacksmith business. He also managed the gas station in Fordyce. On November 25, 1936, he married Rose Kuchta in Menominee, Nebraska. He worked for Cedar County and drove a caterpillar clearing roads during the blizzard of 1948-49. In 1950, he moved to South Yankton where he started his own welding and repair shop, known as South Yankton Welding, which he operated for many years. Ed also worked for A.E. Kraling Construction Company during the building of Gavins Point Dam. He traveled with the construction company to South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota and Montana doing welding, truck driving, and heavy construction work of the dams of the Missouri River. In 1999, he became a resident of Avera Yankton Care Center in Yankton. Ed was an avid hunter, fur trapper, cowboy and commercial fisherman, which he taught to his son, Ralph. He was very knowledgeable about the Missouri River and was one of best card players around. Ed loved life and his family, teaching all his children the meaning of hard work and survival. He was an animal lover and could often times be found with a cat or dog or even a wild animal on his lap. Sometimes these wild animals became the family pet. Ed was a patient man and stressed to his family that you "could learn a lot if you listen." Ed will be greatly missed by anyone who knew him, especially his family. Survivors include his wife, Rose Vornhagen of Yankton; three children and their spouses: Dorothy Gobel of Yankton, Arlene and Maynard Nieman of St. Helena, Nebraska, a daughter-in-law, Donna Vornhagen of Yankton, and Ralph and Cindy Vornhagen of South Yankton; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a future great-grandchild; two brothers and their wives: Lee and Betty Vornhagen of Brentwood, California and Francis "Dick" and Margaret Vornhagen of Conroe, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Louise Collins of Wichita, Kansas and Juliana Pinkelman, Crofton, Nebraska. Burial will be in the St. Boniface Cemetery with military honors provided by the Nebraska Military Honor Guard and the Crofton American Legion Post No. 128. Visitation is from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., on Sunday, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Menominee with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation resumes one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Yankton. Pallbearers are Stacey Barnes, Mike Kollars, Neal Neuhalfen, Wil Sanger, Jason Schoenfelder and Pat Zavadil. Honorary pallbearers are Galen Kleinschmit, Ed Koch, Ron Potts, Leander Schroeder, and those serving in the Charlie Battery who can’t attend because they are deployed overseas. Ralph was born April 2, 1948, in Menominee, Nebraska, to Edward and Rose (Kuchta) Vornhagen. He attended Aten Grade School and then Yankton High School. In 1968, Ralph was drafted into the United States Army and served his country honorably during the Vietnam Conflict. For his service, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. On February 20, 1971, Ralph married Cindy Lyke in Menominee. He followed in his father’s footsteps and became a welder. He worked at Morgen Manufacturing for a few years and then worked with his father at South Yankton Welding. In 1977, Ralph purchased Bruno’s Store which he operated for 27 years until he retired in 2004. Ralph was a member of the Crofton American Legion Post No. 128 and the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post No. 791 of Yankton. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, tinkering in his shop, and his hot rods. But above all, he loved his grandchildren and treasured the time spent with them. Ralph is survived by his wife, Cindy Vornhagen of South Yankton; three sons: Shannon (Sherri) Vornhagen of Crofton, Scott Vornhagen of Buckeye, Arizona and Rick (Amy) Vornhagen of South Yankton; four grandchildren: Kaitlynn, Keirra, Kolton and Jaycee Vornhagen and also one on the way; two sisters, Dorothy Gobel of Yankton and Arlene (Maynard) Nieman of St. Helena, Nebraska; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Juliana Pinkelman was born on May 1, 1918, in Menominee, Nebraska to Joe and Ann (Kast) Kuchta. She attended school in Menominee and graduated from the 8th grade. She then kept house for Rev. Otto Zillig in Menominee for a period of time. After that she kept house for numerous people in the Nebraska and South Dakota area. Juliana married Florenz I. Pinkelman on June 12, 1951, in Menominee. They resided in Wynot, NE after getting married and began farming. After a short period, they moved back to a farm two miles west of Menominee and continued farming. Juliana and Florenz had a son, Arland, born to them on January 25, 1956. In 1960, Juliana, Florenz and Arland moved to a farm two miles south of Crofton until Florenz died in 1971. Then Juliana and Arland moved into Crofton. She was a part-time housekeeper for Rev. Tim Lange and also took care of Rev. Tim's mother for several years.
Juliana loved to be around babies and babysat and kept house for numerous people in the Crofton area. She worked at Bogner's Steak House. She enjoyed baking for others who requested certain items they would like her to make for them. She especially enjoyed making cookies, pies and homemade bread. Everything had to be made by hand and by Juliana's recipe. She enjoyed her flower garden and planting a big garden, canning items to enjoy during the winter or when guests arrived. The coffee was always ready 24 hours a day. She enjoyed visiting with anyone. Juliana had a love for animals, especially cats. She always wanted to see pictures of the newborn colts and the other baby animals. She spent lots of time watching the colts play in the pasture. Juliana loved every visit from her granddaughter, especially playing house and dolls with her. They would play cards, visit, read stories, or just watch TV in her chair, having Jenny sit on her lap. Juliana loved to play bingo and was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
She is survived by her son, Arland and his wife, Debbie Pinkelman of Crofton; her twin sister, Louise Collins of Wichita, KS; granddaughter, Jenny Pinkelman of Crofton; sister-in-law, Veronica Kuchta of Yankton, SD; brother-in-law, Augustine Pinkelman of California.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Florenz; three brothers: Leonard, Louise and George Kuchta; three sisters: Elizabeth Kleinschmit, Barbara Kuchta and Rose Vornhagen.
