  • Juanita McDonald (9/08): My Father was not adopted. He was raised by his Grandmother Elizabeth and Irving Schmidt. She brought him home from the hospital. He use Smith because Schmidt was not good when the WWII broke out. His real Father Frank Dally and Fern Joslin had my Dad and Marvin or Merwin and Billy, Merwin was adopted out by some wealthy people, Probably in Iowa, and I never was able to find out the Name. Billy was adopted by the Kephearts and I heard taken to England. My Dad remained with his grandma. When Dad tried to draw his Soc Sec, They said his real name was Dally and he had worked under Smith, So he could legally change his name to Smith or have all his records changed to Dally. He chose Smith, possible because of my brother. They would have had to change their names.
