Death | 10 August 2013 | Eugene Francis Slowey died on 10 August 2013 at age 84 Eugene "Jake" Francis Slowey, age 84, of Hemet, CA died of cancer Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 2:15pm at his home in Hemet, CA surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia (Pat); 3 sons-Kevin (Nancy) Slowey of Honolulu, Hi, Jeff Slowey of Phoenix, AZ and Don Slowey of Orlando, Fl; 2 grandchildren Ken (Nikki) Slowey, Michelle Slowey and 2 great grandchildren Natalie and Ryan; and sibling Dick (Ellen) Slowey. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Monica Slowey, brother Bob Slowey and sister Joan Kribell. After proudly serving in the US Army in Korea repairing tanks he returned home to run a bread route for 32 years until he retired. He was a lover of cars, engines and anything with a motor. His fascination with tractors came to life with the impressive collection he amassed over the years with anything having to do with John Deere becoming an easy gift giving option! He could be seen at the thrashing bees and would drive out of his way to look at a tractor...you couldn't take the little boy raised on that farm in South Dakota out of his heart. His handyman skills kept many residents at Sierra Dawn with him on their speed dial. He could and did fix anything and saying no was never an option. His abilities were limitless and his helping hands will be greatly missed. As an active member of the local Elks club, he enjoyed serving his community. (And doing quality control checks on the donuts!) He truly treasured the time he spent there with all his friends and missed that the most when he was no longer able to make it there on a regular basis. Being named "Elk of the Year" was an honor he was very proud of. Jake didn't know a stranger and anyone who knew or had ever met him had been entertained by one or more of his stories or jokes! Once you got him started it was hard to get him to stop much to the amusement of those nearby...Thinking of him is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face. The family wishes to thank all the friends who were able to stop by and spend time with Jake during his illness, and countless others whose thoughts & prayers strengthened us. In honoring Jake's very specific wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no services. |
