Marriage14 February 1833Margaret Minerva McFarlan married Philip Jones Howard, son of John Howard and Mary Robinett, on 14 February 1833 at Pope, Illinois.1
Marriageafter November 1840Margaret Minerva McFarlan married James Kirkham after November 1840.
Death24 July 1890Margaret Minerva McFarlan died on 24 July 1890 at Hardin, Illinois, at age 77 A painful illness of several weeks' duration terminated in death at 8 o'clock, Thursday morning, July 24 1890, and the soul of Mrs. Margaret M. Kirkham left its tenement of clay and took its flight. She was born at this place Dec. 6, 1812, before Elizabethtown was ever thought of, and when this portion of Hardin county was a part of Pope Co. She was the daughter of James McFarlan, and her death leaves Capt. B. P. McFarlan the only surviving offspring of this venerable pioneer. Some time in the thirties, she was married to Philip J. Howard, ad, as a result of that union, three children were born to them - William Elizabeth and Capt. P. J., our present Sheriff. The daughter is now the wife of John Dunn, and resides at Platteville, Wis. William, the oldest son, is dead. The husband and father died Nov 10, 1840, and his remains now rest in the McFarlan square at this place. A short time afterwards she was married to James Kirkham, by whom she was the mother of four children - Mary, James Henry, B. P. and Pinkney. Of these Mary and B. P. preceded the mother to the grave. Mr. Kirkham died Sept 2, 1873, and the subject of this sketch was again left a widow, in which state she remained, devoting her time to the care of widowed motherhood. She was taken with her death sickness a few weeks ago. It was mortality wearing out and giving way. She lacked but a few month of reaching the 78th mile-stone. She got in sight of it and her mission ended, and she passed away respected by all. Her remains were laid to rest by the side of her last husband just went of town on Friday afternoon, the funeral conducted by Rev. J. R. Reef, pastor of the M. E. Church. Mrs. Kirkham was E'town's oldest citizen. She was a mother to all who were thrown in contact with herm and her familiar face will be missed by all.

DateLocationDescription
BLUEFORD ROBINETT, a retired farmer, of Shawneetown, Ill., was born in that County, not far from Ford's Ferry, Jan. 18, 1833. His father, Joseph Robinett, was a native of Bourbon County, Ky., where he was born in 1785. In 1819 he came with his wife and four children to Gallatin County, Ill., making the journey by wagon, entered 280 acres of government land, for which he paid $1.25 an acre. On this land Mr. Robinett built a hewed log house of two rooms, and there passed the remainder of his life as a farmer. This farm is the one where the subject of this sketch was born. Joseph Robinett was twice married, His first wife was a Miss Hughes; by whom he had four children, all born in Kentucky. John was a soldier in the Black Hawk war; Irene married John Potts: Phcebe married Joseph Potts, and Matilda married James Barlow. The second wife was Clarissa Nighswonger, a native of Ohio, who came down the Ohio, river with her brother in a flatboat, about 1824, and settled in; Gallatin County. To this marriage there were born the following children: James, who died at the age of seventy-eight years; Louisiana, who married Todd Dunn and died at the age of forty; Allen, who died when he was about thirty years-old; Cynthia A., who married Jeremiah Potts and died at the age of forty; Blueford, the subject of this sketch; Rachel, now living in -Gallatin County as the widow of Henry Rose; Joseph a farmer of Gallatin County, and Alfred, who died when but nine years of age. The mother of these children died at the age of el-ghty-four years and the father when he was about sixty-six. Blueford Robinett was about nineteen years of age at the time of his father's death and he was called on to take charge of the farm and conduct it for his mother. He continued to live on the farm until 1892, when he removed to Shawneetown. Although in his boyhood be was denied the privilege of attending school as much as most of the boys of the present generation enjoy, he has succeeded in life. At one time he owned over 1,000 acres of land. Much of this has been divided among his children, but he is still the owner of a fine farm of two hundred acres. In politics Mr. Robinett has always been a Democrat, one of the kind who always have the courage of their convictions and ready to defend their principles, but he has never been a seeker for public office. In 1853 he was married to Miss Eliza J. Rose and to this union were born the following children: Charlotte, wife of John C. Brinkley, of Shawneetown; Lucy, wife of J. W. Rogers, a well known farmer of Gallatin County; Cynthia, who died at the age of six years; Minerva, wife of J. B. Hellington, a stock dealer of Harrisburg, Ill., and John, who died at the age of twenty-four years. The mother of these children died a few years ago, and since that time Mr. Robinett has made his home in Sbawneetown.
