    Mr. Uthe worked at the former Dubuque Packing Co. for 29 years. He spent the last six years at Leggett & Platt.

    He was born on May 22, 1948, in Dubuque, son of Elmer C. and Imelda (Bogarth) Uthe .

    He was fondly known as Papa Rooster by the grandkids whom he loved spending his time with.

    He lived his life to the fullest and was always willing to give of himself for others.

    He was a devoted father, grandfather and brother, who always shared with others his "Heart of Gold."

    He was an avid hunter and fisherman and never missed a Sunday Bow Shoot.

    Surviving are three children, Ron "Jr." (Jenny) Uthe , Lisa "Dolly" (Mike) Sahm and Erica "Mouse" Uthe , a brother and best friend, Mikey (Joann) Uthe , and a sister, Marilyn "Sis" (Larry) Herber, all of Dubuque; and seven grandchildren, Brody, Keegan and Riley Uthe , Spencer and Laken Sahm and Kamryn and Landyn Foht.

    He was preceded in death by his parents.

    He was born on Sept. 26, 1950, in Dubuque, son of Elmer and Imelda (Bogarth) Uthe . Following high school graduation, he served his country with the Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart.

    He married Joanne Runde on May 3, 1975, in Menominee, Ill., and together, they had 37 years of love and laughter. Together they raised Matt and Katie, who now have five children whom he adored.

    Mike was employed as a baker at Metz/Sara Lee Bakery in Dubuque for more than 30 years, until his retirement.

    He was a member of the Bakers and Confectioners Union Local 36.

    Upon his retirement, Mike quickly became "The Number One Grandpa." He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. He collected $2 bills for betting on the Packers/Bears games, and also enjoyed his morning breakfast with Steve Ernst and cousin, Tommy Uthe .

    Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Joanne, of Dubuque; his children, Matthew (Tempie) Uthe and Katie (Matt) Ferris, both of Dubuque; his grandchildren, Ryan and Kayla Uthe and Jake, Alli and Maddi Ferris; his sister, Marilyn (Larry) Herber, of Dubuque; and many nieces, nephews and in-laws.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ronald Uthe ; and his father- and mother-in-law, Richard and Eloyse Runde.
