She was born March 6, 1940, in Santo Tomas, better known as Stahmann Farms, to Seferino Rosas and Manuela Rosas (Ramirez). Josefina was a 1959 graduate of Las Cruces High School. She was a loving homemaker and a devout member of the Roman Catholic Church where she served as an Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion in the hospital ministry for over 30 years.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Augustine Mendoza Jr; daughter, Irma Rosas Marshall, Las Cruces, NM; two sons, John Augustine Mendoza (Veronica) of Tucson, AZ and Michael Christopher Mendoza (Lisa) of Tucson, AZ and Las Cruces, NM; brother, Eusebio Rosas (Ester), La Mesa; NM; six sisters, Petra Acosta (Isidro), Brazito, NM; Manuela Diaz (Raul) Mesilla Park, NM; Polly Contreras, Mesquite, NM; Martha Rosas, Las Cruces, NM; Cecilia Guerrero (Raul), Mesilla Park, NM; and Mary Salazar (Tom), El Paso, TX; her loving son-in-law, Jacob G. Hernandez, Las Cruces, NM, and two sisters-in-law, Esther Ramirez, El Paso, TX and Maria Rosas, Anthony, TX. Other survivors include eight grandchildren; Amanda Lyn (Chance), Sarah (Carlos), all from Tucson, AZ; Marina (Tony), Zechariah (Salina), Mando (Darian), Aija (Eric), Karisa, all from Las Cruces, NM, and Mariah (Blake) from Tuckerton, NJ; ten great-grandchildren, Jae’Lyn, Jaclyn, Rylee, Aiden, Amelia, Caleb, Zayden, Sienna, Adalee, and Austen, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Josefina was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Virginia R. Hernandez; her in-laws, Augustine G., and Margarita R. Mendoza; three brothers, Martin Rosas, Vicente Ramirez, and Seferino Rosas Jr., and two sisters, Ernestina Amor, and Maria Antonia King.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank all those entrusted with Josefina’s care and include, but are not limited to, Dr. Monica Moya, Jaime Sanchez, Stephanie Trujillo, EMTs, Mountain View Hospital, all her OPs/PTs at Advanced Care and Rehab Hospitals of Southern NM, TenderCare, and Good Samaritan – they all touched her life in a small but very important way.

Visitation for Mrs. Mendoza will begin at 6 PM Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Baca’s Funeral Chapel, 300 E. Boutz Road where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled for 7 PM. Family and friends will join to celebrate the Funeral Mass at 10 AM Friday, May 19, 2023, at St. Genevieve Catholic Church, 100 S. Espina Street with the Reverend Theophine Okafor, Celebrant. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery where she will be laid to rest.

Serving as casket bearers will be John and Michael, Jacob, Mando, Zach, Chance, Carlos, and Tony. Honorary bearers will be Pat Mendoza and Victor Meza.

They had 4 surviving children; Rudy Amor, Daniel Amor, Elizabeth Amor Hinojosa, Terri Amor Ibarra. Ernestina was a blessed grandmother of 8 grandchildren; Angelica Amor, Lori Rochelle Amor, Audrey Ann Ibarra, Michael Austin Hinojosa, Allen Amor, Eddie Ibarra Jr., Andrew Edward Amor, and Brianna Marie Ibarra. The Amor Family would like to recognize and give special thanks to Tina's neighbors: Maria E. Cervera, Elva Villa and Eva Valenzuela who assisted and watched over her. She loved you all and appreciated everything you did for her but most of all thank you for making her smile and very happy.
