Nohns, passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa, surrounded by family. She was born in 1940 the daughter of the late Mary and Elmer Hoffman. On October 23, 1959 she married Hubert H. Nohns, who survives, at Lutheran Church of Peace.

After graduating from Platteville High School in 1958, Jeanette moved to Chicago and worked for Chicago Title and Trust as a secretary. She also worked at Land’s End in Dodgeville, UW Platteville Glenview Commons as a food service supervisor for 24 years and managed her family’s Brown Swiss herd for 40 years. Most of all, Jeanette loved playing cards and games with her family and friends. She prepared delicious, hearty meals and never missed sending a birthday card wish. Her love of gardening and canning as well as our memories of her smile and laughter will be sadly missed.

Jeanette is survived by her loving, devoted husband, Hubert and children; Dennis (Laurie) Nohns, Connie Nohns, Steven Nohns, Michael (Juli) Nohns. Grandchildren; Andrew (Ashley) Nohns, Allyson (Erik) Marks, David (Alissa) Holloway, Joseph (Carla) Holloway, Jacob (Alexis) Holloway, Mark Daniel Holloway, Matthew Peter Holloway, Philip Holloway, Jonathan Nohns, Zachary (Michelle) Nohns, Luke Nohns, Vanessa (fiancé Dalton Cremeens) Nohns, Dalton Nohns, Brooke Nohns, Drake Nohns. Great Grandchildren Gabriel and Violet Nohns, Evelyn Marks, Brock, Brigham, Brenner and Brody Holloway, James Holloway, Reagan Nohns. Siblings; Paul (Donna) Hoffman, Richard Hoffman, Brenda Hoffman, George (Kathy) Hoffman; sister-in-law Marion Hoffman.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents and brothers; Raymond Hoffman, John Hoffman and Arthur Hoffman.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 1, 2018 at Lutheran Church of Peace, 1345 North Water Street, Platteville, Wisconsin with Pastor Jeff Pedersen officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may visit with family on Sunday, September 30 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at the Melby Funeral Home, 1245 North Water Street, Platteville, Wisconsin, or one hour before services at Lutheran Church of Peace.

John, the son of Elmer and Mary (Scharff) Hoffman, was born December 12, 1941, at home in Smelser Township.

John graduated from Cassville High School in 1960. He served in the U. S. Army from 1963 to 1966 in Germany, and from 1966 to 1972 in Vietnam, during the Vietnam War.

On November 3, 1973 he was united in marriage to Marian E. Roesch.

John worked for area farmers in his early years. He was later employed at Flexsteel and A. Y. McDonald both in Dubuque.

John enjoyed taking care of his garden, yard and bird watching.

He also liked having coffee with his friends at the Roadhouse and Haverland's Bar.

John was a member of the American Legion Post No. 473 and Berg Averkamp VFW Post No. 5272 in Potosi.

He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone.

He was born on November 11, 1936, in Happy Corners in Smelser Township; the son of Elmer and Mary (Scharff) Hoffman, the oldest of eight children. He married Donna Jean Mann on February 27, 1960 at the Lutheran Church of Peace, Platteville WI.
He went square dancing, was a 4-H Leader, and established snowmobile trails in Grant County. He was a farmer until 1990, then worked for 5-Star Stock Removal, UW-Platteville, Lands' End, self-employed delivering newspapers and donuts, and working at Big K Farms in Georgetown, WI.
Paul is survived by his loving, devoted wife Donna; their children: Corinna (Gary) Wolfe, Corwin Hoffman, and Samuel (Tracy) Hoffman; grandchildren: Jennifer (Timothy) Amore, Adam (Kamara) Wolfe, Simon (Kaitlyn) Wolfe, Bret Hoffman, Kaleb (Angelica) Champion, Shelby (Maveric Schmitz) Hoffman, Ian Champion, Nicole (Justin) Coleman, Skyla (Jon Morehead) Champion, and Aaron Hoffman; and 7 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way; siblings: Richard, Brenda, and George (Kathy) Hoffman; brother-in-law Hubert Nohns; sisters-in-law Marion Hoffman and Clarice Smart; special friend Edna Hoffman; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Paul was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Jeanette Nohns, John, Raymond, and Arthur Hoffman.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. with services to follow on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at Melby Funeral Home, Platteville. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

He married Suzanne L. Foulk on Jan. 25, 1969, in Dubuque. Tom and Sue were volunteers for many years at the Tri-State Blind Society.

He was a sports fan and enjoyed NASCAR racing. He was an avid Green Bay Packers and Yankees fan. He also enjoyed his aquarium. He especially loved playing games with his grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends and his good buddy, Jacob.

Surviving are his wife, Sue Shaffer; a daughter, Dawn M. (Bill) Mayne, of Dubuque; three sons, Rick J. Shaffer and Brian I. (Stacy) Shaffer, both of Dubuque, and Ron J. "Red" (Shelly) Shaffer, of Maquoketa, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Madison Shaffer, Amanda Shaffer, Tyler, Alex and Logan Mayne, and Kiernan and Mikhayla Shaffer; four sisters, Tonna Flaherty and Carol (John) Horkheimer, both of Dubuque, Linda Seys, of Kansas City, Kan., and Debbie Meyer, of East Dubuque, Ill; three brothers, Marty Shaffer, of Monroe, Wis., Bobby (Carolyn) Shaffer, of Fairplay, Wis., and Mike Shaffer (Chris Luchsinger), of Dubuque; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a nephew, James Dean Adams.

Susie enjoyed needle point, bingo, slot machines and cheering on the Green Bay Packers. She also loved her family and enjoyed it when they could all get together.

She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Shaffer, Mother Joan Foulk, siblings Dennis Foulk and Lonna and Ron Dress.
