Death14 December 1944George McClelland Waddell died on 14 December 1944 at Philippines at age 24 Palawan Massacre
During World War II, in order to prevent the rescue of prisoners of war by the advancing allies, on 14 December 1944, the Japanese herded the remaining 150 POWs at Puerto Princesa into three covered trenches which were then set on fire using barrels of gasoline. As prisoners tried to escape the flames they were shot down. Some escaped by going over a cliff that ran along one side of the trenches, but were later hunted down and killed. Only 11 men escaped the slaughter and between 133 and 141 were killed. The site of the massacre can still be visited. The massacre is the premise of the recently published book "Last Man Out: Glenn McDole, USMC, Survivor of the Palawan Massacre in World War II" by Bob Wilbanks, and the opening scenes of the 2005 Miramax movie, "The Great Raid".

Life EventDateDescription
Birth22 April 1984Trent Allen Hanner was born on 22 April 1984.
Death21 March 2025He died on 21 March 2025 at age 40 Trent Hanner of Beresford, South Dakota, formerly of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Friday, March 21, 2025. He was 40 years young.

Celebration of Life Service will be at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Reverend Steven Broers from St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars will officiate.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. There will be a procession leaving the funeral home at 2:45 p.m. Visitation with the family present will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Trent was born April 22, 1984 in Sioux City, IA, the son of Bobbi Hanner and Robin Klemme. He grew up in the Le Mars area and graduated from Le Mars Community with the class of 2002. As a child, he participated in various youth sports, including t-ball and basketball. He had a very special bond with his maternal grandparents and enjoyed time with his mom and her college friends. During high school, he developed a passion for three things: wrestling, cars, and his forever love, Virginia Mott.

After graduation, Trent attended Northwest Iowa Community College and obtained a degree in auto mechanics. After trying various jobs, he discovered his niche was in IT. He worked at Ho-Chunk for 12 years, working his way up to an IT Manager before leaving for his current position as Director of IT & Security at Five Star Call Centers.

Trent and Virginia married on October 6, 2007. They had made their home in Oyens, IA for a majority of their marriage, before moving to their current residence of Beresford, SD in 2021.

Throughout the years, they accumulated numerous cats, dogs, chickens, rabbits, and even once a pet rat, but the greatest blessing they shared were their two sons, Riley Allen (16) and Raiden Lee (14). As a family, they spent their summers hopping from campground to campground, as Trent perfected his grilling and smoking skills. If you were ever lucky enough to be treated to his barbecued smoked ribs, you’re probably still raving about them.

Trent enjoyed tinkering in the garage and working on car projects, and excitement would often cause him to start one project before finishing the last. He’d tell anyone that asked (and even those that didn’t!) all about his ‘68 Chevy Camaro. His dad taught him to bowhunt and snow ski, and together they spent a lot of time on the quest for deer. He introduced both his boys to wrestling at a young age, and was a volunteer coach through the Le Mars Wrestling Club for many years. At 37, he finally fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming a professional wrestler, earning himself the stage name, “The Hammer”. What started as new friends, quickly became a wrestling family Trent was extremely proud to be welcomed into.

Left behind to carry on his story are his wife of 17 years, Virginia Hanner and their sons, Riley and Raiden, parents Bobbi and Chris Presnall and Robin and Rhonda Klemme, mother-in-law Karla Mott, brothers Jacob (Sarah) Lehmann, Ryan (Rachel) Lehmann, and Jorden Presnall, brother-in-law David (Ana) Mott, step-grandparents Mary Hanner and Craig and Cathy Presnall, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law LaDon Mott, maternal grandparents Bea Lilly and Robert Hanner, paternal grandparents Lowell and Vivian Klemme, and Step-grandparents Frank Lilly and Dick and Cheryl Allen.
