Helen was born on March 19, 1917, in Potosi Township, Grant County, the daughter of Frederick and Louise (Fritz) Koeller. She was united in marriage to Burdette Graney on June 14, 1939, in Lancaster. They farmed together for many years, first in Lancaster and in 1942, they moved to a farm near Platteville, where her husband still resides. She was a homemaker. She liked gardening, playing cards and was an avid bowler and fisherman. She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, where she was active in her church circle. Helen enjoyed being with her family. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Burdette of Platteville; a daughter, Nancy (Tom) Hoover of Hilton Head, S.C; three sons, William (Shirley) Graney of Beulah, N.D., Tom (Barb) Graney of Covington, La. and Stanley (Donna) Graney of Platteville; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Warren (Lucille) Koeller and Fred (Dorothy) Koeller all of Potosi; sister-in-law, Carol Graney of Lancaster; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Hannah, Esther, Bertha, Dorothy and Leona; and four brothers, Arthur, Raymond, Leo and Walter. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at the FIRST CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, Platteville. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Platteville. The Rev. Catherine Carlson will officiate. Friends may call on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the MELBY-BENDORF FUNERAL HOME, 1245 N. Water St., Platteville, or on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the Helen M. Graney Memorial Fund.
