Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, November 3, 2006 at Anderson-Siecke Funeral Home, Elk Point with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Ada Kjose was born at rural Spink, SD on January 17, 1911 to Edward and Alfhild (Hjelmdahl) Anderson. She attended rural school and was confirmed at Roseni Lutheran Church, Beresford in 1925. She married Amos Kjose on April 18, 1931 at Roseni Church. They farmed many years in Brule Twp – Elk Point and was a member of St. Paul church where she participated in many church events and activities; active in church choir, taught Sunday school, held offices in LCW (WELCA) and Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed baking and cooking for her grandchildren. Survivors include her grandsons; Richard (“Skip”) Kjose of Marion, IA, Joe (Susan) Kjose of Elk Point, Michael Kjose of North Sioux City, SD, and Bryan Kjose of Salt Lake City, UT., Granddaughter, Lori Kjose of Las Vegas, NV. 4 great-grandchildren; Sisters, Fern Svatos of Omaha, NE, Esther Girard of Vermillion, Violet (Leonard) Swanson of Akron, IA, Frances (Ray) Granger of Webster, WI, Wilma (Carol) Strand of Freedom, CA, Sister-in-law: Ethel Anderson of Alcester, SD, many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, son, parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Anderson-Siecke Funeral Home, Elk Point is in charge of arrangements.

She married the love of her life, Leo Girard, on April 12 1947, and the two remained happily married until his passing in March of 2005.

They farmed in the Burbank area for many years following retirement from farming, they moved into the city of Vermillion. She was employed at the Clay County Courthouse as an auditor until retirement in December of 1994.

She was active in church and community affairs. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Women Group, Naomi Circle, Vermillion Senior Citizens, Clay County Historical Society, W.H. Over Museum, and former Quota Club. She also served as church organist at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elk Point for many years.

She is survived by three sisters, Fern Svatos, of Omaha, Nebraska, Frances Granger of Webster, Wisconsin, and Wilma (Carrol) Strand of Elk Point, South Dakota; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Girard; her parents; three brothers; and four sisters.

He was employed at USD, Vermillion, until his retirement on June 3, 1990. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus. Fraternal Order of Eagles and Vermillion Senior Citizen Center. Survivors include his wife, Esther, of Vermillion; brothers, Joe (Rose), of Burbank and Leonard (Rita) of Woodburn, OR; a sister, Rose Kunkel Kerns of Kansas City, Mo; a sister-in-law, Betty (Virgil) Schmidt of Wakonda, SD; a brother-in-law, Harold (Lois) Chartier of Sioux City, IA, many nieces arid nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Evelyn Chartier and Dorothy Richardson; brothers: Leroy, Francis and Robert.

He was baptized on February 7, 1932, at Roseni Lutheran Church of rural Beresford, SD. He was confirmed in the faith on August 19, 1945, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Elk Point, SD.

Lowell was educated at the Coyote School, and Elk Point High School from which he graduated. He also was a student at the University of South Dakota, Vermillion for three and one-half years.

For twelve years, Lowell served in the United States Navy. He was the flight engineer of the p2v airplane which flew anti-submarine missions during the Korean Conflict. Then, for twenty-five years, he sold insurance for Mutual of Omaha.

Lowell was deeply involved in the area communities through being a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of rural Elk Point, the American Legion, the Eagles of South Sioux City, the Masons, the Lodge, and he Shriners.

Lowell is survived by his mother, Ada Kjose of Elk Point, SD; five children; Skip Kjose of Marion, IA, Lori Kjose of Las Vegas, NV, Joe and his wife Susan Kjose of Elk Point, Michael Kjose of North Sioux City, SD, and Bryan Kjose of Ogden, UT; three grandchildren; Elissa Kjose, Joseph and Daniel Howe.

He was preceded in death by his father, Amos Kjose.

Funeral will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 4, 2005 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Elk Point, with Rev. Mary Feistner officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, June 3, 2005 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with a 7:00 p.m., prayer service at the church.

Anderson-Siecke Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
