Howard M. Holmes died on 30 April 2002 at age 85 The funeral will be held May 6 for Howard Marion Holmes of Eugene, who died April 30 of age-related causes. He was 85.

Holmes was born Oct. 12, 1916, in Gooseberry, Ore., to Edgar and Lila Biddle Holmes. He married LaVerna Carroll in Reedsport on Jan. 23, 1956. She died in May of 1989.

He graduated from high school in Junction City. Holmes served as a sergeant in the Army during World War II. He worked as a salesman with Desler's Mobile Homes. His interests included full-size and model trains and collecting stamps. Holmes was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 3rd Ward. He volunteered as the manager of the Bishop's warehouse for 16 years.

Survivors include a son, Mike of Eugene; three daughters, Rill Moasser of Portland, Delerna Wilcox of Downey, Calif., and Virginia Ruring of Corpus Christie, Texas; a sister, Alma Carroll of San Antonio; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 3rd Ward in Eugene. Monday's service will be at 10 a.m., also at the church. Burial will follow the service at West Lawn Memorial Park in Eugene. West Lawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.
