Dallas Duane Wilken was born January 27, 1942, in Union County, South Dakota, the son of George and Elvera (Marple) Wilken. He attended country school in Union County and graduated from Canton Academy in Canton, South Dakota. Following high school, he began farming with his father.
He was united in marriage to Clarice Rolfes on October 21, 1967, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Akron.
Dallas enlisted in the United States Army National Guard in 1963. He was honorably discharged in December of 1969.
Dallas was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Akron. Dallas farmed his entire life, and it was one of the things he loved the most! He taught his family the value of hard work. Dallas loved when his kids (and later his grandkids) wanted to ride with him in the truck or tractor and help with chores. While he loved farming and all it brought to his life, he also valued and loved his family. He modeled what it meant to be there for each other as he loved to watch his son coach and attend his grandchildren’s activities. He also enjoyed playing cards, watching western movies, and reading the newspaper.
Survivors include his wife of over 54 years, Clarice of Akron; 4 children and their families: a son, Brian (Pam) Wilken of Newell, IA and their children, Jordan, Peyton, Camryn, Beau, and Broc; a son, Craig (Tina) Wilken of Akron and their children, Hailey and Carter; a daughter, Angela (Shawn) Olsen of Spirit Lake, IA and their children, Kyler and Karli; and a son, Tim (Amy) Wilken of Akron and their children, Taryn, Tatum, and Tayvn; his sister: Illabelle Bong of Fort Payne, AL; his in-laws: Gene (Bernie) Rolfes of Phoenix, AZ, Ruth Phelps of Atlanta, GA, Paula Winker (Bob) Tata of Celebration, FL, Stan (Linda) Rolfes of Akron, and Pat Christensen of Marshalltown, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, Frank and Ida Rolfes; and numerous brothers and sisters in law.

Death came to Clair on May 3, 2014, at his farm home.

Clair Hermie Monson was born May 20, 1939, to Clarence and Mildred (Rupp) Monson at Clarkfield. Clair was baptized on June 25, 1939, at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Granite Falls, confirmed on July 4, 1950, and received 1st communion on June 27, 1945, at St. Andrews Catholic Church. Clair then was confirmed in the Christian of Faith at Granite Falls Lutheran Church on March 7, 1957.

Clair attended school and graduated from Granite Falls Public School, Granite Falls. He also attended one year of agriculture school at the University of Minnesota.

After school, he farmed with his father until 1960. He was united in marriage to Doris Hanson on Jan. 30, 1960. To this union six children were born. After their marriage, Clair worked at Roger’s Hydraulic in Granite Falls until 1963. In January 1964, Clair started his career working for UPS and retired on Dec. 30, 1994. He then worked as a salesman for Kruse Motors in Madison and worked as a seasonal farm worker for Tom Bly’s “Dream Team.”

Clair moved his family from Granite Falls to the Slayton area in 1965. In 1972, Clair and Dori bought a farm north of Hadley where they resided for 30 years. Clair enjoyed livestock farming with hogs, cattle and sheep and farmed the land for three years and then rented the land out. On Sunday afternoons you could find Clair at the baseball field in Hadley watching his sons play for the Hadley Buttermakers. After retirement from UPS, Clair and Dori moved to an acreage in Madison.

In life, Clair enjoyed being with his family by taking many family trips with them, hunting, fishing, having coffee and playing cards with his many friends and of course telling jokes. He enjoyed watching sports which included the Madison Mallards, Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Timberwolves, Minnesota Gophers and listening to Sid Hartman.

Left to mourn Clair’s life are his wife Doris of 54 years; his six children Greg (Kris) Monson of Madison, Cynthia (Pete) Moulton of St. Peter, Michael (Jane) Monson of Cross Lake, Timothy (Harriet) Monson of Sioux Falls, S.D., Sally (Eric) Grams of Westbrook and Debra (Jerry) Czepa of Proctor; grandchildren Cassandra Monson, Matthew Monson, Marissa (Eric) Stahl, Andrew Moulton, Adam (Rae) Moulton, Zachary Herding, Haley Monson, Erika Monson, Samantha Monson, Bailey Monson, Benjamin Monson, Lindsey Grams, Micaela Grams, Gabriele Grams and Paige Czepa; great-grandchildren Olivia Moulton and Owen Moulton and sister Carol (Robert) Skogrand of Brooklyn Park.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Clarence and Mildred and his brother Milfred (“Buddy”).
