"Jean" was born Aug. 5, 1928, in Lake Delton Township to William Henry and Jennie (Rodwell) Dowd. She resided in this area her entire life and attended Lake Delton and Wisconsin Dells schools. Jean was employed by Weyenberg Shoe Manufacturing Company in Portage, Almet/Sunbeam in Baraboo, and Parson's Trading Post in Lake Delton. Jean loved long country drives on Sunday afternoons, dancing, singing, playing piano, bird watching, and surrounding herself with wildflower gardens. She was a history buff who continually researched her family origin and kept a dictionary at her side in the event she ran across a word or spelling she questioned.

    She was married to Paul Sherwood and Elmer Schultz, both deceased. She was married to Lawrence "Bill" Decot on March 20, 1976, and he passed away on Nov, 23, 1990. Her parents; two brothers, Donald and David Moon; and two Schultz infants also preceded her in death.

    Jean is survived by three sons, Jay (Lorna) Sherwood of Montello, Don Schultz of Wisconsin Dells, Dale (Cecelia Langland) Schultz of Lyndon Station; one daughter, Diane (John) Lee of Baraboo; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ila Prindle of Baraboo; nieces; nephews; and pets, "Sassy Kat" and "Sammy."

    Funeral services for Ruby Jean Decot will be conducted at 3 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008 at the Farber Funeral Home in Reedsburg with the Rev. Ray Harms officiating. Burial will follow in Butterfield Cemetery.

    Friends may call on Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials of remembrance may be made to the Sauk County Humane Society in Baraboo.

    The Farber Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

He was born in Oldenstadt, Germany, October 11, 1855, and came to this country in 1872. He was well known as a farmer in this vicinity, until his retirement. Mr. Schuette is survived by his wife, one son, Walter; and three daughters, Laura, now Mrs. Victor Decot; Amanda, now Mrs. Oscar Olson; and Veona, now Mrs. Mittlesteadt, all of whom live in the vicinity of LaValle. Two sisters, Mrs. Dora Ellenberg, of this city, and Elizabeth, in Germany, also survive. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. C. A.     Wayne Eugene Buum was born Nov. 7, 1931, on the family farm in Union County, South Dakota, the son of Lloyd and Antoinetta (Swanson) Buum. He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at Union Creek Lutheran Church. He attended Garlan Country School in Union County. Following his schooling, he helped his uncle, Leonard Swanson on his farm.

    Wayne was united in marriage to LaVonne K. Lamoureux on April 29, 1950, in Akron. Wayne worked for the Railroad and Sioux City Battery Company for a few years. Later, he worked for various businesses in Akron, including the Akron Creamery for eight years, Akron Feed Mill for 21 years, and Akron CO-OP for 15 years. He retired in 1993. Following his retirement, he worked part time for Van's Sanitation for more than seven years.

    Wayne served on the Akron Fire Department for more than 32 years, serving many of those as Fire Chief. He enjoyed playing cards and Yahtzee. He also enjoyed shooting pool and fishing. But most of all, he enjoyed visiting with his family and friends. He will be missed greatly by all who knew him.

    Survivors include his wife of more than 57 years, LaVonne of Akron; four children: Gregory W. and Coleen Buum of Armstrong, Gary and Garnet Buum of McPherson, Kan., Gordon and MeYoung Buum of Leesville, La., and Glenda Klemme and Todd Plendl of Remsen; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Alvern and Marcella Buum of Beresford, S.D; and many other relatives.

    He was preceded in death by his parents.

    Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron. The Rev. Dawn Quame will officiate. Burial will be in Union Creek Cemetery, rural Union County, S.D., with an honor guard by the Akron Fire Department. Visitations will be after 3 p.m. today (Friday) with the family present after 6 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home - Schroeder Chapel in Akron.

    Casket bearers will be his grandsons. Honorary casket bearers will be his granddaughters.

    He grew up on a ranch near Long Valley, South Dakota. He attended rural school and later graduated from Wanblee High School.

    As a young man he worked in construction of earth dams in Durango, Colorado. He served in the United States Army during WWII in the European Theatre.

    After his discharge in 1945 he returned to the Long Valley area where he farmed and ranched with his mother and step-father.

    He married Dorothy Irene Arnold and they owned and operated a farm-ranch one mile east of Long Valley.

    After her death on October 20, 1972, Hiram continued to operate the farm-ranch.

    He was united in marriage to Gertrude "Gertie" Buum Richardson on August 15, 1973 in Rapid City.

    They continued to operate the farm-ranch until retiring in the fall of 1995, but continued to reside on the farm-ranch until moving into Kadoka in September 1998.

    Hiram was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church of Kadoka and a former member of Our Savior Lutheran Church of Long Valley. He was also a member of Pioneer Masonic Lodge #219, and a fifty-six year member of the American Legion Post #240, both of Martin.

    Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Gertrude W. "Gertie" Woodard of Kadoka; two step-sons, Vernon Richardson and his wife Roxy of Longvalley, and Reed Richardson and his wife Joyce of Longvalley; two step-daughters, Carol Duval and her husband Gary of Helena, Montana, and Mary Tieskotter and her husband Bill, of Preston, Minnesota; eight step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clinton "Bud" Woodard and his wife Caye of Scottsburg, Oregon, and Stanley Barber and his wife Helen of Rapid City; one sister, Janice Ruyle of Ouray, Colorado; and a host of other relatives and friends.

    In addition to his first wife, Dorothy Irene, Hiram was preceded in death by his parents, Hiram and Iona; his step-father, Stanley Barber; and two step-grandsons, Kevin Duval and Darin Duval.

    Funeral services for Hiram J. Woodard, age 85, of Kadoka, were held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 23, 2002, at the Concordia Lutheran Church in Kadoka, with Pastor Paul Bly officiating.

    Hiram died Tuesday afternoon, at the Kadoka Care Center.

    Visitation was from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 22, at the Rush Funeral Chapel of Kadoka, and one hour preceding the services at the church on Saturday.

    Interment with military honors by the American Legion Post #240 of Martin was in the Kadoka Cemetery.
