She was baptized and confirmed in Skudesness Lutheran Church. Mavis attended eight years of country school and graduated from Pierpont High School in 1935. After working in Minneapolis for several years she was married to Luverne Satter of Elk Point, SD on April 16, 1941.

They farmed in the Elk Point area until moving to Alcester in 1963. Mavis worked at Bethesda Home for the Aged for a few years and later was employed at Otis Radio in Hawarden, Iowa. After working at the same job for 22 years she retired in 1986.

She was a member of Brule Creek Lutheran Church where she worked with the Ladies Aid and taught Sunday School for many years.

Mavis is survived by her two sons, David (Marvey) Satter of Watertown and John Satter of Sioux Falls; daughter, Judith (Greg) Hammerstrom of Watertown; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and three sisters-in-law, Ardis Leyman of Long Beach, CA, Delores Nelson of Bristol, SD and Arlene Satter of Houston, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luverne, in 1977; her parents, two brothers, three sisters and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services for Mavis will be 10AM Friday, June 7, 2019 at Brule Creek Lutheran Church, rural Elk Point, SD with burial to follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, June 6th from 4-8PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford with the family present from 5-7PM.

She was raised by Earl and Ida Dann. She died February 21, 2012 at Bethesda Nursing Home at the age of 99 years, 4 months and 26 days.

Mildred attended Mt. Hope School, Pioneer High School for two years and then graduated from Beresford High School in 1931. She was a clerk at Bruehler & Bruehler Drug Store in Beresford. Mildred married Elmer Wevik on June 15, 1938 at the Earl Dann farm in rural Lincoln County, SD. She was a member of Roseni Lutheran Church where she was active in WELCA and sang in the church choir. She was also a member of the JUG (Just Us Girls), Opti-Mrs. Extension Club, Pioneer Ladies Aid and the VFW Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law Clarence (Cy) Smolik, brothers Merle, Arley, Wayne, William, Donald and Odeen, and her sisters Marie and Helen Rasmussen and Delona Johnson.

Among those who survive and gratefully shared her life are her twin daughters, Jeanette Smolik of Beresford and Janice (Roger) Smith of Marshalltown, IA; son Merle Wevik (Margaret Ticktin) of Salt Lake City, UT; grandchildren Saretta (Alejandro) Cavazos, San Antonio, TX, Matthew (Amy) Smolik, Tea, SD, Michelle O'Connor, Cedar Rapids, IA, and Timothy O'Connor, Ames, IA; great-grandchildren Chelsea and Tyler O'Connor, Marshalltown, IA, Cyanna and Cameryn Cavazos, San Antonio, TX, and Brandt and Emerson Smolik, Tea, SD; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Roseni Lutheran Church, rural Beresford, SD with burial to follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4PM to 7PM with family present from 5PM to 7PM and a prayer service at 7PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.

She attended Brule Rural School. She met her husband Melvin Rusten at Augustana Academy and they were married February 26th, 1937. She was a lifelong member of Roseni Lutheran Church, and was active in Ladies Aide and Sunday School.
Berniece worked at Bethesda Nursing Home for 35 years. After retirement she volunteered there until she reached her mid 90's, filling the role of nurses aid, assisted with activities and crafts, as well as chapel. Berniece was known for her hospitality and kind heart. Berniece entered into the presence of her Savior Monday, July 21st, 2014 at the age of 101 years, 4 months and 25 days.

She is survived by her daughters, Twila Sveeggen and Beverly Peterson, grandchildren Allen Sveeggen, Carol (Paul) Reynen, Anita (Glenn) Nelson, Denise Gerstman, Sharon (Dan) Rykhus, Lois (Todd) Tunell, Duane (Kelley) Rusten, Mark (Angela) Rusten, Heather Young, Lisa (Gary) Stocker, Karen Peterson, 25 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin, her son Merland, son in law Arnold Sveeggen, siblings Stella Megard, Evelyn Sommervold, and Oswin Larson, granddaughter Cher-yl Desautels and great granddaughter Kara Nelson.

Family visitation will be held Wednesday night at Wass Funeral Home from 6-8 pm, with a Prayer Service beginning at 7 pm. Funeral services will be 10:30AM, Thursday, July 24 at Roseni Lutheran Church, rural Beresford, SD, with burial to follow at the church cemetery.
