Marge kept up anextensive correspondence on family affairs as well as personal contactsthat could truly be said to have bound her far flung extended familytogether as it never had been before. Marge and Jim moved from Bruinrugfarm in 1988, after 56 years there, to a smaller retirement house inBeaufort West, but their son Andy continued to manage the farm. Margedied on June 16, 1992, after a stroke, having never fully recovered herstrength after a fall a year before. They had two children.

After his retirement he still ran one small farm,'Rockwood.' For many years he was the South African Representative ofthe London Wool Brokers, and also for many years served as vice-presidentand president of the National Wool Growers Association. He also took anactive part in management of many sports organizations. For 20 years hewas Chairman of the Graaff Reinet Mohair Growers Association. He made agreat impression on Freda (Mrs. E. G. D.) Murray who described him as a'cheerful, marvellous personality' who overcame many misfortunes. He wasshot and injured accidentally at age 6 (saved by Dr. G. A. E. Murray),later had both legs totally crippled by polio, and after retirement wasparalysed and near death from bee stings but recovered. He marriedMinnie Edwards Trollip, 'Tom.' Eventually, in old age they moved to 77Donkin Street in Graaff Reinet. In February 1987 she was gravely illwith heart and kidney condition, then being about 79 years old anddescribed by Marge Shearing as 'one of the finest characters I have everknown.' George and 'Tom' had five children.
