Memorial Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Rexwinkel-Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron. Reverend Trish Underberg of St. John’s Lutheran Church – Preston Township, rural Akron will officiate. Interment will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery – Preston Township, rural Akron. Visitation with the family present will be from noon until service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel-Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Arlene LaVonne Yates was born July 18, 1939 in Westfield, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Leona (Kisting) Yates. She attended school in Le Mars and graduated from Le Mars High School in 1957.

She was united in marriage to Dale Klemme on November 30, 1957 at St. John’s Lutheran Church – Preston Township, rural Akron.

She attended college at Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City. She worked at Westmar College in Le Mars until they closed. Over the years, she also worked for Coilcraft and Walmart. She also operated ceramic shops in Akron and Hawarden. She also did painting and wallpapering in many homes. Dale passed away September 26, 2005.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church – Preston Township for 55 years where she taught Sunday school for 20 years. She was an avid and gifted seamstress and loved to crochet. She worked hard so her children could follow their dreams. She also enjoyed bowling and playing bingo.

Survivors include a son: Kevin (Holly) Klemme of Nashville, TN; a daughter: Kym Klemme of Cedar Rapids, IA; her grandchildren: Daniel Klemme Jr, Caitlin Klemme, Grace Klemme, Dominick Foley, Alex Foley, Daytona Foley, and Samantha (Brett) Arends; her great grandchildren: Logan, Tanner, Emma, and Conner Klemme, and Charlie and Lucy Arends; two sisters: Darlene Bergerson of Knoxville, TN and Eilene Rolling of Le Mars, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale Klemme; her son, Daniel Klemme Sr; her daughter, Cynthia Foley; her grandson, Dana Klemme; her great grandson, Evan Klemme; and two sisters: Marlene Henry and Charlene Williams.

Daniel Dean Klemme was born August 9, 1958 in Akron, Iowa, the son of Dale and Arlene (Yates) Klemme. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, rural Akron. He attended school in Akron and graduated from Akron High School in 1976. Following high school, he attended truck driving school at Western Iowa Tech in Sioux City. Following college, he was an over the road truck driver. When he wasn’t on the road, he helped his father on the farm and did construction work.

He married Mona Moriston on December 11, 1981. To this union, two sons were born: Daniel and Dana. They made their home in the Akron area. Later, they moved to Estherville, Iowa. Daniel did construction work in the area. They later divorced. Daniel returned to the Akron area where he continued in the construction business and later drove a cement truck for G.C.C. in Akron until he became disabled.

Daniel loved fixing and repairing things. It wasn’t uncommon for him to tear things completely apart and put it back together again. He had a love for horses and dogs. He also enjoyed going to sales and auctions, looking for that rare treasure. He also enjoyed fishing. But most of all, he loved the time spent with his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include a son: Daniel Klemme (special friend, Gretchen Murner) of Vermillion, SD; a daughter: Beth (Ray) Reeves of Atlanta, GA; two grandchildren: Tanner and Emma Klemme; his mother: Arlene Klemme of Akron; his brother: Kevin (Holly) Klemme of Spring Hill, TN; his sisters: Cindy (Dave) Foley of Akron and Kym Klemme of Sioux City; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Klemme; a grandson: Evan Klemme; and a son: Dana Klemme.

Cynthia Ann Foley was born April 9, 1962 in Akron, Iowa, the daughter of Dale and Arlene (Yates) Klemme. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church – Preston Township, rural Akron. She attended school in Akron and graduated from Akron High School in 1980. Following high school, she attended A.I.B. in Des Moines where she received her associate degree in court reporting.

She was united in marriage to David Foley on April 4, 1992 in Sioux City, Iowa. Early on, they made their home in Sioux City before moving to an acreage in Plymouth County, Iowa.

Cindy began her over 35-year career in court reporting in Sioux City where she owned and operated A-1 Court Reporting. She then went to work for the State of Nebraska as a court reporter before going to work for the State of Iowa.

Cindy was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran – Preston Township, rural Akron. She was active in the Friendship and Service Club in Akron and the Iowa Court Reporters Association. She also looked forward to the Plymouth County Fair every year. As a senior in high school, she was crowned Plymouth County Fair Queen. She enjoyed spending time with her family and attending her son’s activities. She also enjoyed being outdoors and taking care of animals.

Survivors include her husband, Dave of rural Le Mars; 3 sons: Dominick Foley (Ashley Reed) of Estherville, IA, Alex Foley of rural Akron, and Daytona Foley of rural Le Mars; her father, Jack Fara of Le Mars; her mother, Arlene Klemme of Akron; two siblings: Kevin Klemme and Kym Klemme; her in laws: Debbie (Larry) Watterson of Sioux City, IA, and Deanna (Steve) Mayo of Sioux City, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Dale Klemme; her mother, Jan Fara; and a brother, Daniel Klemme.

Margaret Louise Pickle was born on May 24, 1937 in Johnson City, Tennessee, the daughter of Eugene and Essie (Feathers) Pickle. She attended country school in Tennessee and graduated from Boones Creek High School in Johnson City in 1955.

She met Daryl Klemme while he was stationed in Fort Knox. They were united in marriage on March 20, 1959 in Johnson City. After their marriage, Louise and Daryl moved back to the family farm east of Akron. Louise was a homemaker for her family.

She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church – Preston Township where she taught Sunday school and was active in the ladies’ aide for many years. Through the years, she enjoyed cooking and looking for new recipes. She also enjoyed shopping and collecting “Precious Moments” figurines. But most of all, she loved the times spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed attending all of their activities.

Cora Elizabeth Casler was born March 12, 1909, in Seney, the daughter of William and Martha (Hughes) Casler. Cora attended country school near Merrill, and later Merrill High School.
Cora was united in marriage to Edward P. Utesch on Feb. 16, 1927, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Johnson Township, rural Merrill. Ed and Cora farmed near Merrill and later moved to a farm north of Le Mars where they lived until retiring. They moved to Le Mars in February 1973. Ed died Oct. 9, 1979. After Ed died, Cora enjoyed spending the winter months in Oklahoma and Texas with her daughters.
Cora was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. She treasured the time with her children and grandchildren. She has made her home at the Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars since November 1995.
Survivors include her children, Donna Whitaker of Frisco, Texas, Lois Johnson and Edward and Marilyn Utesch, all of Le Mars; a son-in-law, Donald Witt of Bartelsville, Oklahoma; 15 grandchildren, David Witt, Linda Sohl, Stephen Witt, Jeffrey Witt, Donita Wendt, Kathleen Rice, Phillip Whitaker Jr., Paul Whitaker, Susan Cook, Prescott Whitaker, Charles Johnson, Robert Johnson, Michael Johnson, Beth Robey, and Mark Utesch; 27 great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Ella Utesch of Akron.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Joyce Witt on June 7, 1999; two sons-in-law, Phillip Whitaker and Melvin Johnson; two great-grandsons, Warren Rice and Russell Whitaker; four sisters, Mildred Galland, Alva Jaynes, Ruth Waite, and Mary Ellen Schwartzkopf; and a brother, George Casler.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Le Mars with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitations will be after 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Cora's grandsons.
