Death | 29 August 2006 | David Lee Thelen died on 29 August 2006 at age 64 SFC (Ret) David Lee Thelen, age 64, resident of Columbus, died Tuesday, August 29, 2006 at the Columbus Regional Medical Center. Mass of Celebration will be held at St. Anne Catholic Church on Friday, September 1, 2006, 10 a.m. with Father Gerard Schreck officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus. Interment to follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, AL. A Rosary will be said at the funeral home this evening at 6 p.m. with the family receiving friends afterwards from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Mr. Thelen, son of the late Andrew Thelen and Hilaria Ludwig Thelen, was born November 12, 1941 in Spencer, Iowa. After graduating from high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force, and served in Germany. After his enlistment, he attended college and graduated from Eastern New Mexico University, Portallis, N.M. After college, he taught Distributive Education for a few years. He then reentered the military, and served his country honorably for over 21 years in the U.S. Army. Mr. Thelen was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church; and the Knights of Columbus where he was a 4th Degree Knight; and a member of the American Legion. He is survived by his brother, Colonel (USAF Ret) Terry Thelen and his wife Maxine of Ocean Springs, MS; two sisters, Mary Ann Altman and her husband Ray of Marietta, GA and Susan Carey and her husband Ray Bob of Camdenton, MO; other relatives and friends. |
