Soloists will be Rose’s Grandchildren: Stephanie Berns, Derrik Bauer, and Trisha Emery. Lector will be Rose’s Granddaughter, Megan Hardy. Gift Bearers will be Rose’s Grandchildren. Eucharistic Ministers will be Rose’s Granddaughter Brenda Reis and her husband Brian Reis. Casket Bearers will be Rose’s Grandchildren: Amanda Holladay, Derrik Bauer, Brent Goins, Christine Hardy, Mike Klocke, Ryan Strunk, and Kevin Ludwig. Burial will be at Holy Family Cemetery in Lidderdale.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4:30 p.m. Monday where there will be a rosary prayed at 5 p.m., followed by a Christian Wake Service by the parish at 7 p.m.

Born on April 23, 1916 at Breda, Iowa, Rose was the daughter of Theodore and Anna (Schulte) Boes. She grew up in Breda and attended school there. On April 19, 1938 she married Arnold Ludwig at St. Bernard’s Church in Breda. Following their marriage the couple farmed near Breda and in 1940 they moved to Lake City. While living on the farm in Lake City, Rose was a member of a gardening club. They farmed near Lake City and in 1971 Arnold and Rose retired to Carroll. Rose volunteered with the St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary for over 25 years. She was a talented seamstress and sewed many dresses for her children. Rose enjoyed playing many different card games and also was active in numerous card clubs. She enjoyed baking, crafts and especially spending time with her family. She was a member of St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary, St. Lawrence Parish, and a lifelong member of Holy Family Parish in Lidderdale.
Survivors include her children: Dean Ludwig of Lake City, Louann Klocke and her husband James of Seattle, Washington, Eldon Ludwig and his wife Debbie of West Des Moines, Karen Goins and her husband Steve of Yetter, Jim Ludwig and his wife Dee of Carroll, Judy Strunk and her husband Robert of Carroll, Mary Bauer and her husband Mark of Jefferson; 19 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; one brother, Earl (Alice) Boes of Breda; two sisters-in-law: Wilma Boes of Breda, and Margaret Boes of Carroll; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Arnold in July 1979; daughter Doreen; son-in-law, Kenny Kirby; daughter-in-law, Diane Ludwig; two grandsons: Benjamin Ludwig and Shane Ludwig; great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Ford; two sisters: Philomenia Thelen and Matilda Thelen; and five brothers: Tony, Albert, Raymond, Edmund, and Clarence Boes.

Concelebrant will be Fr. Craig Collison. Mass servers will be Maximus Hardy and Anna Berns. Music will be by Kathy Halbur, Derrik Bauer, and Stephanie Berns. Lector for the Funeral Mass will be Michael Hardy. Gift Bearers will be Emma Reis, Megan Hardy and Mariah Hardy. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Maximus Hardy and Brody Reis. Casket Bearers will be Alex Cornelius, Brandon Cornelius, Nolan Ford, Clayton Reis, Tyler Reis and Matthew Hardy. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at Holy Family Cemetery near Lidderdale with military honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll with a rosary at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be from 9-9:45 a.m. on Saturday at the church.

Born on October 8th, 1940, in Lake City, Iowa Dean was the son of Arnold and Rose (Boes) Ludwig. He attended Kuemper High School in Carroll, Iowa and graduated in 1959. Dean served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1965 and was stationed at Fort Richardson near Anchorage, Alaska, where he survived the earthquake of 1964. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he returned to the family farm. On March 3, 1973, Dean was married to Diana (Kirsch) Pletchette at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll, Iowa. They lived on a farm six miles south of Lake City, where he farmed the Ludwig Family ground and his own farm. Diane passed away on February 16, 1980, leaving Dean to raise his four daughters on his own.
In his spare time Dean enjoyed buying and selling items at auctions and garage sales with his brothers. He was a collector of antique toys and miscellaneous items. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. He loved watching westerns. He enjoyed playing cards with his siblings and even participated in Euchre tournaments. Dean loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was also a master fisherman with his proudest moment being the time caught his biggest fish, an enormous catfish of 49 pounds on an 8 lb. test line out of a pond. Dean was a former member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Lidderdale, Iowa. In 2017, Dean retired from farming and moved to Swan Place in Carroll and then to Journey Senior Services in Carroll.
Surviving are his four daughters: Susan (Dan) Cornelius of Lake City, Rhonda Ford (Dwane Bolton) of Rockwell City, Christine (Michael) Hardy of Lohrville, Brenda (Brian) Reis of Rolfe; his thirteen grandchildren: Alex (Jessica Peters), Brandon (Megan), Jessica, and Zoe Cornelius, Nolan Ford, Megan (fiancé Colin Corey), Mariah, Matthew and Maximus Hardy, Clayton, Tyler, Emma and Brody Reis; five great-grandchildren; his two brothers: Eldon (Deborah) Ludwig of Carroll, James (Dee) Ludwig of Carroll; his four sisters: LouAnn (James) Klocke of Edgewood, Washington, Karen (Steve) Goins of Yetter, Judy (John) Strunk of Carroll, Mary Jo (Mark) Bauer of Jefferson; his brothers-in-law and sisters in-laws: Andy Kirsch, Duane (Betty) Kirsch, Monica (Norm) Nellesen, Virgil (Peggy) Kirsch, Lucy Kirsch and Lloyd Drees; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane; his parents, Arnold and Rose Ludwig; his in-laws, Andrew and Leona Kirsch; a granddaughter, MacKenzie Ford; a sister, Dorene Ludwig; his sisters-in-laws: Janice Klocke, Mary Ann Kirsch, Shirley Kirsch and Mercedes Drees; his brothers-in-laws Art Kirsch, Jerome Kirsch and LeRoy Klocke, two nephews: Benjamin and Shane Ludwig.

On August 19, 2000, Shane was united in marriage to Misty Gonzalez at the Church of Christ in Carroll. Shane enjoyed four-wheelers, working on lawn mowers, going to garage sales and going fishing.
Shane is survived by his wife Misty Ludwig of Ankeny; son Kyle Ludwig of Ankeny; mother Debbie Ludwig of West Des Moines; father Eldon Ludwig of Carroll; sister Amanda Holladay and husband Brian of Minburn; his maternal grandmother Beulah Onken of Lidderdale; his paternal grandmother Rose Ludwig of Carroll; a niece Aleah Holladay of Minburn; his mother-in-law Karen Beaird and husband Brian of Slater; his father-in-law Ralph Gonzalez of Seagoville, TX; a brother-in-law Justin Beaird of Slater; a sister-in-law Heather Beaird of Ames; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Shane was preceded in death by a brother Benjamin Ludwig and his grandfathers Lyle Onken and Arnold Ludwig.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am Tuesday, February 5, 2008, at the Church of Christ in Carroll, with Reverend Corey Miller officiating. Friends may call after 5 pm on Monday at the Dahn & Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll, where a prayer service will be held at 7 pm. Casket bearers will be Brian Hackfort, Ben Tronson, Jeff Smith, Tony Hembry, Tony Strunk and Tim Blankenship. Burial will take place at Carroll City Cemetery.
