Death | 27 March 2024 | John Herman Hanusa died on 27 March 2024 at age 88 John Hanusa, age 88, passed away peacefully at his home in Celeste, TX on March 27, 2024. He was born to George and Emilia (Kile) Hanusa on January 25, 1936, in Loganville, WI. John was a graduate of Reedsburg High School and served in the Air National Guard. He would later go on to graduate from Milwaukee School of Engineering. In 1964 he married Vail Kenney and later would adopt two daughters. In 1977, he moved his family from Iowa to Texas to work with Collins Radio, where he enjoyed a brilliant and celebrated career as an aeronautical engineer. He would go on to work for E-Systems, Raytheon, and L3 Harris communications. He invented and was later awarded a patent for an antenna that uses a very high frequency line of sight to go on the winglet of an aircraft. He was also a FAA representative on certain projects for his company. John loved flying his Mooney airplane and flew with his family on several vacations. He would later go on to use his plane for several rescue and recovery missions for Civil Air Patrol, in which he was very active. He was an avid gun collector and enjoyed target practice and reloading his own ammunition. Also, there were a couple of Farmall H tractors he might have been obsessed with during his lifetime. John is survived by his wife Claudia; daughters Heidi (Larry) Riddle, and Jennifer (Steven) Stewart; sister Donna Bergman; grandsons Jeffrey Williams, Lawson Williams and multiple other grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Vail Hanusa, and his second wife Virginia Johnson. Funeral services for John will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Farber Funeral Home in Reedsburg with Chaplain Mike Amberg officiating. Visitation will also be on Tuesday, at the funeral home from 10:00 am until the time of service. Burial will follow services at St. John's Cemetery in Reedsburg. |

He married Barbara Ann Lacke on June 22, 1963 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Cuba City, WI. Bob operated the family dairy farm for over 40 years before beginning his second career of 18 years at Finley Hartig Homecare. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Holy Name Society and a member of the endowment fund and an usher at church. Bob enjoyed playing cards, traveling, watching sports, an avid Wisconsin Badgers fan, but most of all, he enjoyed time spent with his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara; 7 children: Steve Schonhoff of Maple Grove, MN, Kim (Nick) Reiter of Waterloo, IA, Jim Schonhoff of Savage, MN, Jeff (Dawn) Schonhoff of Savage, MN, Lisa (Barry) Ploessl of Holmen, WI, Suzanne (Paul) Humbert of St. Paul, MN and Dan (Lisa) Schonhoff of Bennington, NE; a daughter-in-law, Carrie Schonhoff; 21 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 3 step great-grandchildren; a sister, Elaine Droessler of Kieler, WI; 2 brothers-in-law: Dan Lacke & Tom (Janet) Lacke; along with many nieces and nephews. On July 14, 1973 he was united in marriage to Margaret ‘Peg’ Slaney at St. Kilian’s Catholic Church. Mike worked for Concrete Forms, The Richland Foundry, Fred Bindl Limestone and Cardinal IG. He was a member of the Lone Rock American Legion. Mike loved hunting and fishing. Mike is survived by his wife of 50 years, Peg; Three children: Christine (Ed) Gundelach of Marshall, Charlene (Benjamin) Gald of Richland Center, Terrence Kaul of Bear Valley; Five grandsons: Michael and Peyton Gundelach, Ethan, Isaac, and Seth Gald; Seven sisters: Joanne Slattery, Arlene Machovec, Theresa Jensen, Eloise (Robert) Anderson, Bernadette (Mark) Hintz, Rita (Stephen) McCarthy, Tina (Brent) McKittrick; Four brothers: Steve (Laura) Kaul, Marty (Sharon) Kaul, Pat Kaul, Herman (Tami) Kaul; Sister-in-law, Karen (Dan) Krueger; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Jim’s many passions included reading, traveling with his family and spending as much time as possible on the golf course with his many lifelong golf buddies. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Diana Johnson; and his in-laws, Ralph and Laura Fehland. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Batterman of Springfield; a son, Dr. Craig (wife, Dr. Tanya DeSanto) Batterman of Springfield; a daughter, Kristin (husband, Glenn) Keller of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; and his five grandchildren, Emma, Grace, and Sam Batterman, and Laura and Jack Keller; his brother, Roger (wife, Ramona) Batterman; his sister, Joyce (husband, Christopher) Feret; his sister-in-law, Kathy Fehland; nephews; cousins; and many wonderfully supportive friends. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life memorial at a later date. |

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Gary (Mary) Younker of Chicago; 5 grandchildren, Stacey (Jayson) Borrelli, Jaime Wascher, Jordan (Mike) Toufar, Jake Younker, and Kelly Chiaro; 7 great-grandchildren, Jared, Regan, Nico, Ryan, Charlotte, Lorenzo, and Mackenna; a former spouse, Shirley Younker of Peotone; a daughter-in-law, Toni Younker of Manhattan; and several nieces and nephews.
