Caterina was born on March 30, 1919, in Chicago, to Joseph and Caroline Laroney. She was united in marriage at our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on August 31st, 1946, and celebrated over 51 years of marriage with the late Eugene Karstens.

Caterina was also involved with several churches, including St. Stephens in Des Plains, St. Edna's in Arlington Heights, and St. Bede in Ingleside.

She will be deeply missed by her daughter, Eileen (Braxton) Miller of Island Lake, and her grandchildren: Lilyan Goeppner of St. Louis; Bernice (Mike) Conner of Niles; Michael Karstens of Round Lake Beach, Joshua Miller of Island Lake; Peter Miller of Island Lake; and Cassandra Karstens of Round Lake Beach.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, and her daughter, Edyth Karstens.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 7th from 4:00-8:00 PM at the K.K. Hamsher Funeral Home, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Road in Fox Lake (the Chapel on the Lake). A Chapel service will then be held on Tuesday, June 8th, at 11:00 AM at the All Saints Catholic Cemetery, 700 N. River Road, Des Plains, IL. Entombment will follow.

Betty is survived by six children, Brian (Peggy) Bieri of Seymour, David (Peggy) Bieri of Hesperia, California, Sandra (Louie) Campbell of Paradise, California, Bruce (Donna) Bieri of Wild Rose, John (Kay) Slama of Camp Douglas and Dawn Miles of Sun Prairie; 12 grandchildren; a greatgrandchild; two brothers, Albert (Juanita) Lanz of Manitowish Waters and Robert (Virginia) Lanz of Baraboo; a sister, Doris Turner of Greenville, South Carolina; and several nieces, nephews and friends. It was Betty's wishes to have no public visitation or funeral services.

A private service for the family will be held at a later date. The SCHROEDER-CRESS FUNERAL HOME of Madison is assisting the family.

The bride wore a street length dress of blue velvet with which she wore a black velvet hat and a corsage of roses.
She was attended by Miss Betty Lanz as maid of honor. Miss Lanz wore a wine colored street dress and black hat.
The groom was attended by Cedric Brimmer as best man.
Following the ceremony, a luncheon was served to the wedding party at Kay's Tea Room in Madison.
A 6 o'clock dinner was served to the immediate family at the home of the groom's mother upon their arrival here, the bride and groom received many beautiful gifts.
Mr. and Mrs. Friede are their home in this city.1

Death23 December 2025Mary Katherine Siberz died on 23 December 2025 at age 68 Mary Katherine “Kathy” Siberz, died on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at Meadow Ridge Assisted Living at the age of 68 with family and friends by her side. Kathy, daughter of James and Joan (Christy) Siberz was born May 19, 1957 in Baraboo. Kathy was a graduate of Baraboo High School, Class of 1975; she furthered her studies by obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Home Economic Education from UW-Stevens Point and also attended St. Mary’s University of Minnesota at Winnona.

Kathy was employed by Pierce’s Market from 1975-1989 and Darrow’s Market from 1989-1994. In 1994, Kathy became the Director of Parish Services at St. Joseph Catholic Church where she dedicated countless hours to the church and school. Kathy will be remembered for giving generously of her time and knowledge to the church community. During her time at St. Joseph, she assisted with running the Saturday night Bingo which thrives to this day.

Outside of work, Kathy gave her time to various local organizations including Baraboo Jaycees, Sauk County Children’s Giving Tree and the Baraboo Food Pantry where she served as president for 10 years.

Survivors include her brother, David; uncle, Ray; dear friend, Colleen Brennan, all of Baraboo, as well as numerous cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles.

Kathy would like to thank the many friends and neighbors who supported her these last few months. Their help was greatly appreciated.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Jay Poster presiding. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of mass at the church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
