He was a Tomah barber for 50 years prior to his retirement several years ago. He is survived by his widow; two sons, Lt. Col. Kenneth Schamens of O'Fallen, Ill; and Lt. Col. Maurice Schamens of Bellview, Neb; one sister, Mrs. Irma Mattson; and one brother, Franz, both of Sparta; and seven grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1:30 P.M. at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church with Pastor O. W. Heier officiating. Burial was in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Her parents were Mr. Herman Kewit and his wife Louise (nee Backhaus). On December 4, 1920, she was united in marriage with Mr. August Schamens in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tomah by Pastor C. E. Berg. Since a few years after their marriage, she and her husband lived in Tomah and were active members of St. Paul's Lutheran congregation. She also belonged to the Debra Mission Circle. Her earthly sojourn was filled with much sorrow, particularly during the last 15 months. She was taken to the local hospital on January 31, when she became seriously ill quite suddenly. (She died of a cerebrovascular hemmorage.) She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Alfred Kewit. She is survived by her husband, August, of Tomah; two sons, Kenneth of Tokyo, Japan, and Maurice of Glasgow, Mont., presently of Guam in the Pacific; two daughters-in-law; six grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Thursday (today) Feb. 9, at 2 P.M. in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with burial in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Gary was born on December 11, 1946 to Orlen and Norma (Kummer) Friede. Gary loved being outside and birdwatching and shared that love with those around him. He also enjoyed making things with wood and sanding. Gary was able to use his smile to entertain and even disarm those who met him.
Gary loved very deeply. He was a lover of friends and family. He cared about every person he met. Many of his family friends had the opportunity to get to know Gary over the years. He remembered every time someone came to visit him. In the days since Garys death, many of these friends have reached out to share their favorite memories of Gary. He made an impact.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Orlen Friede and Norma (Kummer) Friede; his brother, Leonard Friede; sister, Karol Scoles, and his nephew Timothy.
Gary is survived by one niece, Kristina (Andrew) Dreon; great niece and nephew (Kaylee & Mason) and nephew Jeffrey Scoles.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the choice of the donor. The family of Gary wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Mayo Clinic Health System Hospice for their care of Gary, and the Lambs Creek West Family Home for their care and support of Gary through the years.
A Graveside Funeral Service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, June 19th, 2021 at Prairie View Cemetery, in the town of Lake Hallie, WI.

During his tenure at Port High, “Friedes” as he was known to most of his students, was the advisor to the school newspaper “The Pirate,” which won numerous awards, golf coach, the public address announcer for home football and wrestling meets, kept the scorebook for the basketball team, was a class advisor, and helped coordinate the junior prom. Len was most admired for his knack for helping students find their way in life. Mr. Friede was also a member and former Elder of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Port Washington, and was very active in The Food Pantry. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, photography and reading. Len is survived by one sister Karol Ann (Larry) Scoles of Brooklyn Center, Minn., and one brother Gary Friede of Eau Claire. He is further survived by one niece, Kristina (Fiancé Dax Ducat) Scoles and nephew Jeffrey Scoles of Brooklyn Park, Minn., other relatives and many friends and former students. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 29, 2007 at 5 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 217 N. Freeman Dr, Port Washington, with Pastor John Klieve officiating. Interment will be at Prairie View Cemetery, Hallie. Visitation will be at the Church on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. The Eernisse Funeral Home, Port Washington is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested to the Port Washington High School Scholarship Fund, The Food Pantry, or St. John’s Lutheran Church.
