He was born on March 11, 1940 in Reedsburg, the son of Harry and Norah (Diener) Horkan. On August 6, 1960, he was married to the former Jean Unbehaun. Pat served in the Wisconsin National Guard during the Berlin Crisis. He had hauled milk for several years and later worked as a foreman with Edward Kraemer and Sons for thirty-three years until his retirement. Pat enjoyed hunting and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife, Jean; five children: David Horkan, of Lime Ridge; Dean (Lorrie) Horkan, of LaValle; Sharyl Coy, of Reedsburg; Sherry (Russell) Karstetter, of Ironton and Stacie (Scott) Dank, of Hillpoint; twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers: John (June) Horkan, of Lyndon Station and Peter Horkan, of Tomah; his sister-in-law: Carol Horkan, of Reedsburg; his mother-in-law: Marion Unbehaun, of Cuba City; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: James Horkan; his son-in-law: Greg Coy and his father-in-law: Francis Unbehaun. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:30 A.M. on Friday, February 3, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Reedsburg with Father Lorin Bowens officiating. Interment with military rites will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery in the Town of Winfield. The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday at the Hoof Funeral Home in Reedsburg where a Knights of Columbus rosary will be prayed at 7:30 P.M. He enjoyed playing cribbage and bingo. Survivors include his brother: John (June) Horkan, of Reedsburg; two sisters-in-law: Jean Horkan, of Lime Ridge and Carol Horkan, of Reedsburg; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Patrick and James. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:30 A.M. on Friday, May 25, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Reedsburg with Father David Carrano officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the Reedsburg Veterans Honor Guard. There will be a visitation from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at the Hoof Funeral Home in Reedsburg and after 10:30 A.M. on Friday at the church. A Scripture service will be held at 6:30 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials to a charity of your choice would be appreciated. He attended UW - Richland and later graduated from UW - Platteville. On Aug. 3, 1974, he was married to the former Carol J. Aide. Jim worked as personnel director at First Federal Savings and Loan in Madison for 17 years. He was active in the Madison Central Lions Club and the Monona Jaycees for many years. Jim was always very civic-minded and was active in improving conditions for people with disabilities. He will be remembered as an example and inspiration to many having lived his life as a quadriplegic for over 46 years. In 1970, George Martin, head wrestling coach for UW - Madison, established an award in Jim's honor to be given each year to an outstanding Reedsburg wrestler for dedication, determination, academics and civic involvement. In 1996, Jim and his family returned to the Reedsburg area. He enjoyed hunting, boating, fishing and camping. Survivors include his wife, Carol; two children, Joshua and Alicia Horkan, both of Reedsburg, WI; three brothers, Patrick (Jean) Horkan of Lime Ridge, WI, John (June) Horkan of Lyndon Station, WI and Peter Horkan residing at the Veterans Home in Tomah, WI; nieces, nephews, cousins; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his father and mother-in-law, Wilford and Kathleen Aide. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Reedsburg with Father Thomas Monaghan officiating. Interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery in the Town of Winfield.

Also surviving are his wife, Inez; a daughter, Mrs Charles Kellaher, Mauston; 2 other brothers, Peter, Lyndon Station and Louis, Mauston; a sister, Mrs Ida Jensen, Indianapolis, IN; and 2 grandchildren. Survivors include two children: Shirley Lange, of Reedsburg and Jerry (Patty) Laridaen, of Appleton; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; nine brothers and sisters: Mabel Burgess, Alice Lombard, Geneva (Fred) Vogt, Jeanette (Fred) Werner, Robert (Dorothy) Decot, Ramona McHenry and Patricia (James) Murdock, all of Reedsburg; Lois (Austin) Luke, of Lake Delton and Elaine (Glen) Jensen, of Madison; one sister-in-law: Frances Decot, of Reedsburg; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis, on September 10, 2000; one daughter: Yvonne Tucker; two sisters: Mary Frayer and Margie Decot, and one brother: Donald Decot. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 31, 2005, at SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH in Reedsburg with Father Thomas Monaghan officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the HOOF FUNERAL HOME in Reedsburg and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the church. The Hoof Funeral Home is serving the family.

She was part owner of Connor’s Bar in the 1970s. Shirley was employed as a CNA for many years at the Reedsburg Hospital, Edward Snyder Nursing Home and Our House Assisted Living. She was also employed at Cellox for several years, and Lands’ End.

Shirley was a devout Catholic and member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and later Holy Family Catholic Church. She enjoyed baking, watching CNN and an occasional visit to Ho-Chunk Casino to test her luck.

She was preceded in death by her parents; former spouse, Darol W. Lange; and sister, Yvonne Tucker.

Shirley is survived by her children, Charmain (Larry) Weisert of LaValle, Patrick Lange of Reedsburg, and Jill (Joe) Pelton of Lyndon Station; grandchildren, Ansley (Debbie) Lange, Cole Weisert, Haley Weisert (Justin Snyder), Brock Pelton (Paige Nolden); great grandchildren, Ryder Weisert, Arlo Snyder, Jenna and Alex Lange; brother, Gerald (Patty) Laridaen of Appleton; several nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Shirley E. Lange will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at the Farber Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Reedsburg. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
